Love Island’s Shaughna Phillips’ baby name meaning as she calls newborn daughter Lucia
April 11, 2023Shaughna Phillips has given birth to a little girl, who she’s now revealed she’s named Lucia.
The Love Island star, 28, was induced over the weekend after going a week over her original due date, going on to welcome little Lucia on Tuesday, 4 April.
Announcing her daughter’s arrival on Instagram, OK! columnist Shaughna penned: “My darling Lucia, I wish I had you sooner so I could love you longer”.
The star’s newborn weighed 8lb 8oz and was welcomed into the world at 8:10pm.
In light of Shaughna’s baby joy, we look into what her daughter’s lovely moniker means and where it stems from.
According to babynames.com, Lucia is of Italian origin and means light. Another spelling of the unique moniker is Luzia.
The English equivalent is Lucy or Lucinda.
Elsewhere it’s noted that there’s a Saint Lucia, who was a fourth century martyr from Syracuse, as per behindthename.com. According to the site, Saint Lucia is the patron saint of the blind.
Shaughna has been showered with congratulatory messages since announcing the news of Lucia’s arrival, with many of her fellow Love Island alumni leading the comments.
“I’m so incredibly proud of you!!!!” penned best pal Demi Jones. “She is absolutely beautiful like her mummy I love you so much!! Congratulations my angel girl”.
Anna Vikili added: “Congrats” followed by a string of heart emojis, as Hayley Hughes wrote: “So cute! Congratulations”.
Meanwhile In The Style creator Adam Frisby commented: “Awww congrats shaughna” followed with a string of lovestruck emojis.
“Congratulations angel! She’s perfect! Well done mama!” added AJ Bunker, who was recently rushed to hospital with “excruciating pains”, as Nicola McLean labelled the tot as “absolutely beautiful”.
Shaughna announced back in October that she was pregnant with her first child and took part ina stunning pregnancy shoot with OK!.
Speaking to us at the time, the reality TV star recalled the moment she discovered she was pregnant.
“I felt like I was going to explode with happiness and shock," Shaughna told us. "I didn’t know what to do. I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience."
"I thought I’d read it wrong at first," she said of seeing the result.
"I was convinced I wasn’t pregnant. So I did another one, which was also positive. I then ran to the chemist to get a digital test and that said three-plus weeks, which is the most it goes up to. I had only just come off the pill a few weeks earlier after being on it for over 10 years, so I hadn’t had a period since March."
