Kate Middleton nails Christmas style in thousand-dollar plaid
December 4, 2018Kate Middleton is getting in the Christmas spirit.
On Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge, 36, stepped out in a very festive outfit that included an ankle-length pleated tartan skirt ($1,112) from one of her favorite designers, Emilia Wickstead. She attended a celebration for military families at Kensington Palace with Prince William, and there was even faux snow to further add to the spirit of the season.
Middleton finished the uncharacteristically bright and patterned piece with a simple black cashmere cardigan by Brora ($237) and accessorized with suede knee-high boots.
The event, in partnership with the Royal British Legion charity, was held just steps from where Wills and Kate live with Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 7 months. There were Christmas trees, a photo booth, stockings and other on-theme decorations, and the royals took part in activities such as decorating snow globes, making crackers and throwing snow balls.
The mom of three paused in the celebrations to give a speech about the difficulties of having a service member in the family. “As someone whose husband has served, I know how hard it feels when a loved one leaves to do the job they trained for,” she said.
“When William served in the Falklands or went search and rescue, I remember how it felt. But I can’t imagine how it feel when your loved ones are away on active service during Christmas. The absence of people you love must be especially hard at this time of year or at those special family moments.”
