Inside the life of Francis Bourgeois and why celebrities can’t stop talking about himNovember 18, 2021
Shooting to fame after sharing his love for trainspotting on social media, Francis Bourgeois has, arguably, become the UK’s favourite trainspotter and railway enthusiast.
Having been struck by some lockdown boredom back in 2020, Francis began sharing videos relating to his trainspotting adventures on TikTok.
Posting to his account, the student can frequently be seen giving tours of his favourite trains and enthusiastically greeting passing railed vehicles.
Since then, he has become a TikTok sensation, has appeared on This Morning alongside Phil and Holly and has introduced millions of people to the world of trainspotting.
But who is Francis and why has he gone viral?
Who is Francis Bourgeois?
Also known as ‘Train Guy’, Francis is a student from North West London, currently studying engineering at the University of Nottingham.
“People have shared very personal feelings and emotions about how [my videos] have helped them overcome hard times,” he told The Face. “It’s very moving. The number of messages has been almost overwhelming. It really spurs me on.”
After sharing videos of his love for trains on TikTok during lockdown last year, he has amassed 1.4 million followers and has received over 24.1 million likes on the app.
Besides his love for trainspotting, Francis is also known for wearing his GoPro camera on his head, a choice that leads to some interesting camera angles.
Who are some of his celebrity fans?
Francis recently delighted fans after being interviewed by Phillip Schofield on Holly Willoughby on This Morning and even took fellow presenter Josie Gibson on a trainspotting trip.
BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Chris Stark are also big fans of Francis, inviting him onto their show to broadcast a train honking live on air.
But in addition to his guest appearances, Francis has also filmed a video with Premier League legend Thierry Henry, presenting the footballer with the gift of a train whistle.
The TikTok sensation has also been invited to The Warehouse Project in Manchester to enjoy its iconic Hacienda night.
Taking to Twitter, Sacha Lord wrote: “We’ve had some A listers attend @WHP_Mcr over the years…but we’ve never seen such a commotion as when Francis Bourgeois turned up this weekend.”
What has he said about his passion?
Speaking to Holly and Phil, Francis explained that he’s been interested in trains since he was four years old and that he’d often go to Willesden Junction train station to watch and draw the trains.
“I love to show how awesome trains can be as well as trying to make you smile, laugh and just try and bring joy,” he said.
As a result of his success, Francis plans on using his engineering degree to become a railway engineer.
“I want to contribute my passion for trains and also engineering to make the railway network a better place for everyone,” he added.
Where else can I find Francis?
As well as being on TikTok, Francis is a frequent poster on Instagram, using his page to continue to share his passion for trainspotting. At present, he has 744,000 followers.
Francis is also on video request website Cameo, meaning that fans can receive a personalised message from the TikTok sensation himself
