While the festive season is often joyful, it can also cause arguments in a relationship – whether from stress or too much booze.

And, one husband has shared the December argument he had with his wife.

The bloke, from Victoria, Australia, wrote on social media to ask if he was right by “embarrassing” his wife in front of friends.

He claimed that she had told the pals that she was the main family “breadwinner” – but, he explained that was a lie.

The husband wrote on Reddit: “First off, I do not believe in the concept of breadwinners.

“That's an outdated term."

What do you think – should be have stayed quiet? Tell us in the comments…

He continued: “We were talking about how finances were absolutely f***ed now, and my wife casually mentioned that she was the breadwinner.

“That's objectively false.”

He continued: “Even this year, when I got let go for a month, I still made about 50 per cent more than her.

“I wouldn't have cared if she said there were no breadwinners, but she did say an objectively incorrect thing.

“I just said "Don't breadwinners earn more than their partner? I don't think you do’.”

Apparently, his wife later told him that he had embarrassed her – and that she’d wanted to keep up the white lie to her friends.

However, he said that it wasn’t kind to lie at the expense of another person.

The man asked posters online who they thought was in the right.

Some sided with him, like one commenter who said: “It's quite a gamble to assume you can blatantly lie in front of someone who knows the truth and that they wouldn't correct you.

“Even if it's your partner.”

Another added: “Well the thing is… wasn't she embarrassing him in the first place with that ‘little white lie’?”

However some defended the wife.

They suggested she may have said that she earned more due to working while he was unemployed that year.

Another added: “Doesn't make it any more excusable and she's definitely the a*****e but I don't think she was being super malicious about it either.”
