A drinker at ‘one of Britain’s most haunted pubs’ claims to have been stalked by a ghost in this bone-chilling CCTV footage.

Landlady Ellie Boiling says The Dolphin in Littlehampton, West Sussex, is plagued with ghosts and she has even had guests run out in terror.

The footage shows a punter enjoying a drink in the pub when a spectral white figure appears behind him, approaches and then vanishes.

“He was the most sceptic man I’ve ever met in my life,” said Ellie, 51.

“He was lucid, he wasn’t drunk or anything.

“He phoned me and said: ‘I’ve just seen something go past me, can you look on your CCTV to see what it was?’

“I rewound it and I was like ‘Oh my God’.

“I was shocked, I wasn’t expecting to see anything – I thought maybe it was a dog or something – but there it was.

“He was a sceptic and he was shaken. All his beliefs seemed to have gone out the window.”

The landlady and self-styled ghost hunter says the spooks at the pub include a former cook who was murdered by her abusive uncle, as well as the malevolent spirit of the uncle himself.

She claims there’s also the spectre of a man in RAF fatigues, the ghost of a woman in white, and a mischievous spook who throws 20p coins at customers.

Some guests have even fled in the middle of the night, Ellie said.

“There was a man and woman who once stayed in room two – they paid cash for the whole week,” she said.

“On the first night he came down in a little towel and he said ‘you’ve got to move me!’

"He said ‘somebody has just floated through my door and out through the window’. They were absolutely hysterical.

“I moved them up to room six and I knocked on the door in the morning to give them breakfast, and they’d gone.

“So I checked my CCTV and they left at half past four in the morning… they didn’t want their money back, they’ve never been in touch, and I never heard from them again.”

Ellie says the haunting at The Dolphin is so severe that one room has even been shut off to guests.

She believes that room is haunted by a ghost child whose portrait is preserved on a photographic plate discovered in the pub.

“I named this girl Little Dolly because everybody calls my pub The Dolly,” she said.

But Ellie was more than a bit spooked when a mysterious stranger entered the pub one day and revealed that the nickname was far older than she’d realised.

“He said ‘my grandad used to own this pub 100 years ago and he had 14 children. One unfortunately died of diphtheria, up in the old nursery I believe, and her name was Little Dolly.’

“And he took me to the grave just up the road and there it was. Her name was Ada Constance Parish and inscribed above it, it said ‘Little Dolly’.

“I didn’t know that was her name. I just called her that because of the pub’s nickname.”

For Ellie, the pub’s reputation as a haunt for ghosts is well deserved.

“I’ve been a ghost hunter for 27 years and I’ve been around.

“I do many charity ghost hunts and go round people’s houses to help them – but this is by far the most active haunting I’ve ever experienced.”

The pub itself dates back to 1735 and has welcomed guests including Lord Byron, Oliver Reed and Benny Hill.
