Get more bang for your bucks this bonfire night with our top tips

November 1, 2021

IT should be a cracker of a weekend with bonfire night on Friday.

But with endless deals on party food, drink and fireworks there’s no need for costs to rocket.

Here’s my round-up of the best offers to make your celebration go with a bang.

SILENT SIZZLERS: Low-noise fireworks are all the rage — particularly for those with pets.

Tesco is doing a 3 for £18 Clubcard deal on packs, including the Carnival selection box, Gala fountain and Jubilee rockets, each £7.

Or try Aldi’s LOL selection box for just £12, or Asda’s Rainbow selection for £10.

CRACKING OFFER: It’s all about monster sparklers this year. Head to Lidl for 12 giant ones at £1.99 — 16p each.

MEATY MULTIBUYS: For big gatherings, check out Iceland for its three-for-£5 deals on party food, including packs of chicken poppers, mini hot dog rolls and southern fried chicken sticks.

Asda’s hot on bonfire party deals too — two for £4 on 12-packs of chipolatas and six-packs of sausages.

For smaller parties, I like Tesco’s £2 Clubcard deal on its own-brand Five Bean Chilli & Potato Bake, down from £3.50, and £3 double baked potatoes with cheese and bacon.

TABLE A DEAL: Don’t forget the table nibbles. Tesco is matching Aldi prices for bargain staples, with breadsticks 59p per pack, onion ring crisps at 88p and a cheese and garlic baguette for 32p.

THE MOST TOAST: When it comes to toasting marshmallows, up your game with Epic Giant Toastin’ Marshmallows for £2.39, down from £2.99, from Sainsbury’s.

You’ll also need a stack of sweet treats, for which I’d go to Asda.

Its two-for-£7 deals on fun-size packs of 35 choccy bars and its two-for-£3 deal on mini Brownie bites should leave everyone happy.

WHISKY WARMER: Whip up a hot toddy (whisky, lemon and honey) with Aldi’s Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, £16.99, the cheapest I can find in the supermarkets.

While you’re there, grab some instant hot chocolate for the kids — 99p.
