Ed Sheeran got criticized for underdressing for Beyonce duet at festival
December 6, 2018Ed Sheeran, the British singer who nearly always wears a t-shirt and jeans while performing, is responding to criticism that he was underdressed to perform at this weekend’s Global Citizen Festival next to Beyonce, who wore an extravagant pink gown as she duetted with Sheeran on “Perfect” Sunday.
On Thursday, Sheeran acknowledged the controversy, albeit without commenting on it. He shared a media report titled, “People are angry Ed Sheeran wore a t-shirt while Beyonce wore couture during their Global Citizen performance” on his Instagram Stories, screenshotting the headline in one story and sharing a link to buy the printed black t-shirt he wore onstage in another.
Some Twitter users expressed anger that Sheeran couldn’t be bothered to up his sartorial game a little for his Beyonce duet. One critic wrote, “Ed Sheeran is a 27-year-old man the fact we’ve enabled him to feel it’s ok to dress like this at all, let alone next to Beyoncé really boils my (expletive).”
Some even called out Bey for collaborating with the perpetually casually-dressed singer-songwriter in the first place. “Why are you making me listen to Ed Sheeran?” another asked.
