Restaurants use this sneaky trick to make you order more food – here's how to avoid it

RESTAURANT dining is an enjoyable way to treat yourself to some delicious food and a nice atmosphere.

But the problem with eating out is that the bill can get pretty pricey.

A nutritionist named Monika, who goes by @osilashealth on TikTok, said there’s a trick that restaurants use to make you order more food and rack up the bill.

Although most of us love reaching for the tempting, free loaves of bread brought to our tables before the meal, Monika said you should think twice before doing so.

“A sure way get customers to order more food is to bring them a bread basket as soon as they sit down.

“The bread will give them a large glucose spike, which they’ll crash from around 60-90 minutes later, making them hungry again just in time for some desert.”

Many users were equally shocked and impressed by the secret:

"…And it works every time," one person wrote.

"Exactly. I get tricked into eating like a family of four," added a second.

Others, however, disagreed with its functionality:

“Nope. I literally eat all the bread then don’t even want to eat my food,” one person wrote.

“This isn’t true. Restaurants thrive on turnaround time for tables. They don’t want people there for an hour and a half,” added a second.

As for a different trade secret, a Trader Joes employee revealed that he doesn’t always mean what he says to customers about their purchases.

A man named Daniel Bennett, who goes by @DxnielBennett on TikTok, posted a video in which he asks his friend a question:

“You work at Trader Joe’s right?” Daniel began.

“Yeah,” his friend off-camera replied.

“So do you, like, flirt with all of your customers?” Daniel asked.

To which the friend replied: “Yeah, if they’re hot. Usually, whatever they’re getting, I’ll just tell them ‘That’s my favorite.’”

“But, what if it’s not your favorite?” Daniel wondered.

“They don’t know that. Like last week some girl came through my line and she got cauliflower gnocchi. And I told her, ‘That’s my favorite,’ but actually, I’m allergic.”
