Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton risk ‘devastating’ future of monarchy if they don’t ‘heal major tiff’, royal commentator saysDecember 20, 2018
Phil Dampier, who has written several books on the monarchy, said that it would be “damaging” for the famous family if the “rift” isn’t resolved as soon as possible.
He told Express.co.uk: “I think it would be dreadful and very, very damaging for the monarchy if there was some major rift that they weren’t able to heal and which was to carry on for years to come.
“I think that would be absolutely devastating for the Royal Family and devastating for the future of the monarchy.”
The royal commentator spoke about the alleged tension between Kate and Meghan, and said: “I think there’s something in the stories. Possibly they had a bit of a tiff before the wedding.
“I don’t think one ought to blow it up too much out of proportion because obviously any bride before their wedding is nervous and all families have small tiffs.”
Meghan and Kate, and their respective families, are due to spend Christmas Day together at Sandringham, and Phil speculated this could be a good time to patch things up.
He said: “This Christmas, if they are locked in the same house for a few days, would be the ideal time to bury the hatchet.”
Over the last few weeks, speculation has mounted over growing tensions between the Cambridges and Sussexes – which Kensington Palace has denied.
It comes after claims Meghan had been branded "Duchess Difficult" by Palace insiders following another one of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's aides – Samantha Cohen – resigning from her role.
There were also claims Kate had told Meghan not to berate members of her team after she reportedly "b****cked" one of Kate's staff.
The "row" followed rumours that Kate was "left in tears" during a "stressful" fitting for Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress.
Recently, we told you Meghan Markle "won’t spend Christmas morning with Prince Harry" as royal men traditionally have breakfast in a separate room.
We also revealed how "favourite" Meghan Markle "received the most expensive Christmas present" from her dad Thomas.
