As Princess Charlotte of Wales is the only daughter of the heir apparent, Prince William, she will have her pick of the royal jewellery collection when she is older. Charlotte made her royal jewellery debut at the Queen’s funeral on Monday, opting for a special brooch with incredible sentimental value.

The horseshoe brooch Charlotte wore paid tribute to her love of horses, a passion she shared with the late Queen.

Daena Borrowman, PR, Social and Digital Marketing Manager at jewellerybox, said: “Little Princess Charlotte wore her very first piece of big girl jewellery to the Queen’s funeral.

“She paid the most fitting tribute to her “Gan Gan” through a horseshoe brooch.

“The dainty diamond-studded jewel pinned to Charlotte’s coat was reportedly a gift from her iconic great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to celebrate their shared love for horses.

“A priceless gift that the young Princess will undoubtedly treasure for years to come.

“Charlotte’s tribute would have no doubt brought great joy indeed to her brooch-loving great grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, who strategically wore her brooches to pay tributes, send messages and act as forms of soft diplomacy.”

When she’s a bit older, Charlotte can expect to wear jewels from the Queen, Princess Diana and Kate, Princess of Wales’ jewellery collections.

Now it appears Charlotte has started to accessorise her outfits, Express.co.uk takes a look at some of the most poignant jewels Charlotte may wear in the future.

Cartier Halo Tiara

The Cartier Halo Tiara got its last outing in 2011 when Charlotte’s mum Kate Middleton wore it to marry Prince William at Westminster Abbey.

With its delicate scrollwork, the Cartier Halo Tiara is one of the most modest diadems in the royal collection.

So it could be a good starter tiara for Charlotte when she begins attending formal events with her royal parents and grandparents.

Before Kate wore it to her royal wedding, the Cartier Halo Tiara was a firm favourite of Princess Margaret who, like Charlotte will be, was a daughter of a monarch.

The late Queen’s daughter Princess Anne was also pictured wearing the glittering headpiece on occasion when she was younger.

Spencer Tiara

One jewel Charlotte will likely wear in the future is the Spencer Tiara, a Spencer family heirloom.

Charlotte’s late grandmother Princess Diana famously wore the tiara for her 1981 wedding to then Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral, and she donned it throughout her life for formal engagements.

A source told GoodToKnow in 2021: “William is close with his uncle and has asked if his mother’s namesake tiara can be given to Charlotte someday.

“William is quite aware the Earl has daughters of his own, but the two have agreed that Diana’s iconic piece belongs to her first granddaughter.”

Poignantly, Charlotte could opt to pay tribute to Diana by wearing the diadem on her wedding day, or she could also wear it at formal functions.

Collingwood pearl earrings

The Collingwood pearl earrings are one of the jewellery items Kate, Princess of Wales turns to most frequently, and they once belonged to Princess Diana.

All of Diana’s jewellery was passed on to her sons Prince William and Prince Harry when she died in 1997, and now their respective wives Kate and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex wear some of these items publicly.

When Charlotte is older, Kate and William may allow Charlotte to wear some of these items from Diana’s collection, including the Collingwood pearl earrings.

Other items Kate has worn from Diana’s collection over the years include a pearl bracelet, diamond and South Sea pearl earrings and, of course, the iconic 12-carat sapphire engagement ring.

Diana and Kate frequently paired the Collingwood pearl earrings with the Lover’s Knot Tiara from the Queen’s collection, and Charlotte may wish to do the same.
