The Italian-American restaurant has introduced more than 20 vegan dishes at its Scunthorpe branch, many of which are classic favourites.

The chain was keen to prove to many that being vegan is more than "going straight to kale and salads".

One tester invited to the branch to critic the new menu said: "I don't know what I was expecting that it wasn't that."

Dishes include Viva le vegan burger, chickenless nuggets, I ain't no chicken parmigianna and deserts such as Chocolate and Raspberry lava cake.

Describing new menu, the chain said: "Our new menu proves that this 100% isn't the case, with tasty vegan alternatives of Mac n Cheese, Chicken Parmigiana and Hot Dogs.

"And they all agreed that our menu is 'proof that going vegan, doesn't mean going without."

Holly Davies, head of food at Frankie and Benny's said: "We are so excited about the launch of our new vegan range. We've worked in collaboration with PETA and we now have over 20 dishes across the menu.

"We know that interest in vegan food is absolutely booming and not just for vegans."

The restaurant's vegan menu comes weeks after Gregg's launched its first vegan sausage roll, which is available for £1.

But it has been reported that sausage rolls consist of faux meat in dairy-free pastry, with the "meat" being made from the same fungus as Quorn.
