Couple get married over ZOOM 5,000 miles apart after falling in love during holiday fling

A LOVED-UP couple tied the knot on Zoom 5,000 miles apart – after falling in love during a holiday fling.

Andrew Bateman, from Merseyside, and Mitzi Gussman, from Mexico City, were supposed to get married in Mexico on July 31 last year, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Andrew, 22, and Mitzi, 28, moved their wedding to February 6, but they decided to come up with a new plan after Covid restrictions struck once more.

The lovebirds, who have been apart since last July, chose to have a virtual ceremony instead.

The pair met three years ago in Mexico when Andrew was on two-week family holiday, and he proposed under the Eiffel Tower in April 2019.

Speaking to ITV, Mitzi said: "It's love, it's true, it's real, it can win anything – even distance."

Electrical engineer Andrew told “‘It was strange not to be with Mitzi on our wedding day, especially because we bought a house at Christmas.

“All I wanted to do was reach into my iPad and hold her, but I’m just relieved to finally be married and I’m waiting for us to start our new life together.”

The virtual wedding was watched online by 40 guests in wedding attire, and Mitzi wore a white gown.

The nuptials were overseen by a wedding company based in Germany in accordance with regulations in Utah, USA.

Although they will be legally married once their certificates arrive in the post, they still plan to do a church ceremony and party on July 30, 2022.

Andrew added: “It will be a big relief when we’re finally living together because it will be us dictating when we see each other and not the border officials. I’ll have Mitzi to come home to rather than coming back to our house on my own.”

Speaking to Kate Garraway on Good Morning Britain, Mitzi said: “I’m more happy now, the only thing we want is to stay together.”
