Bloke’s 'lockdown shop' sparks controversy as trolls rage over his incredibly long receipt

January 7, 2021

A BLOKE has gone viral for sharing his whopping shopping list after doing a lockdown supermarket visit for his wife.

TikTok dad @jayandemalou posted a video of the staggeringly-long list to the Star Wars theme song – and it has now sparked outrage on social media.

The dad intended the post as a joke, and added the caption “When the wife says she needs a 'lockdown shop'.”

He continued in the comments that “most men in the UK will understand”.

Jay’s long groceries list, which was done at a Tesco in Newcastle on Tuesday, included everything from sausages, bacon, turkey rashers, avocado, Dr Pepper and Vimto and appears to total at least £100.

His video has been viewed over a million times, and although he was shopping for a household of nine people, some trolls have slammed him for "hoarding".

One said: “Lucky for those who can afford excessive shopping.”

Another added: "And that’s why the shelves in the shops are empty."

However, others defended him saying: “Omg it’s pretty obvious most commenters don’t shop for a family if they think this is stockpiling. That lot wouldn’t make a dent in Tesco."

Jay replied saying the list was longer than usual as he is now shopping less frequently, and so buying more in a single go.

Other people saw the post as Jay had intended; a joke about keeping his wife happy with her shopping demands.

One person said: “There is hardly any chocolate or alcohol on there.

"This is not our first rodeo she should know better."

Another added: “Man only got six beans, I see this is your first lockdown brother.”

A third joked: “If you didn't order a takeaway when you got home it wasn’t successful.”
