Why Cheryl fears major wardrobe malfunction on tonight’s The Greatest Dancer

February 2, 2019

As the old showbiz adage goes, never work with children or animals – or errant items of clothing, for that matter.

It’s something Cheryl will be bearing in mind on tonight’s first ever live The Greatest Dancer show, as new rules mean a wardrobe malfunction is now way more likely.

According to telly insiders, both Cheryl and her fellow judge Oti Mabuse are worried because the live format of the show gives them no time for costume changes – so if something goes wrong on the night, it’ll be up to them to save their own blushes while they dance around.

"Cheryl and Oti want to look sexy and glam, but having to jump about doing a physical routine has caused them last-minute problems," one source told the Star.

"They’re busy with the team’s stylists looking for something that won’t lead to any Janet Jackson Super Bowl-style blunders."

Janet’s nipplegate flash was the first ever live costume blunder to be branded a wardrobe malfunction, after Justin Timberlake exposed her breast during their 2004 Super Bowl half-time show performance.

Janet was forced to issue a grovelling apology to the nation after Justin ripped off a patch of PVC leather on her corset to reveal her nipple jewellery.

Hopefully Cheryl won’t be doing the same come tomorrow morning.

Tonight’s live show will see nine acts go head-to-head with their prepared dance routines – and one will be sent home when the audience votes them off.

But the three dance captains – Cheryl, Oti and Matthew Morrison – will first have to show off their own moves in a carefully choreographed group performance.

It comes after Cheryl’s disastrous appearance on The X Factor last December, which saw her pilloried for her cringey moves as she staged her pop comeback with single Love Made Me Do It.

Cheryl writhed around on the floor, groping backing dancers and licked her own hand in the ‘sexy’ routine, which saw even X Factor head honcho Simon Cowell’s jaw drop.
