Why Andy Cohen turned down Lisa Rinna for Season 1 of ‘RHOBH’

Andy Cohen didn’t want Lisa Rinna to join “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” when he launched the series, the host revealed on “Watch What Happens Live” Tuesday night.

On the “After Show” segment, a caller questioned why Rinna, 55, had not been on the reality show since the beginning. Cohen, 50, then admitted that he and producers had spoken to Rinna prior to Season 1, but decided she was not a good fit — at the time.

“I didn’t get it,” Cohen confessed. “I felt like it should be all unknown people — even though Kim [Richards] and Kyle [Richards] had acted years before. I felt like Lisa Rinna was too much of a personality and name.”

The actress eventually joined the series during Season 5, and by then, Cohen was fully on board.

“I knew that you knew the women. You had a history. I just felt that the show needed to establish itself on its own before in my mind I could ever picture it,” Cohen told Rinna.

Rinna agreed, “Everything happens for a reason … always.”
