TOWIE’s Demi Sims proudly shows off vitiligo in unfiltered snap after teen struggle
February 23, 2023TOWIE's Demi Sims has proudly shown off her vitiligo in two snaps taken ten years apart, after struggling with the condition since she was a teenager.
The 26 year old TV personality was clearly feeling inspiring, as she posted the photos with a positive message to any of her fans and followers that were struggling with insecurities.
In one unfiltered snap, Demi, who recently rekindled her romance with former Love Island star, Megan Barton Hanson, looked stunning as she sat in a chair after having her makeup done as she wore a semi-sheer one-shouldered bodysuit.
Demi's blonde and brown hair was slicked back from her face in a sleek ponytail, and she wore chunky diamante and gold earrings to set off the look.
Across her chest and neck, white patches of skin could be seen, which are caused by vitiligo (a lack of melanin pigment in skin.)
In the second snap, Demi could be seen as a 16 year old as she gazed forlornly at the camera, as the white patches could be seen on her forehead, neck, chin and round her eyes.
In the post's lengthy caption, Demi explained that she had decided to share more about her skin condition after the response she had received from her followers when she spoke about it days earlier.
As she explained the picture of herself as a teenager, Demi said: “I was really down that year as you can imagine, as this was over 10 years ago I thought I looked weird and it really took a toll on me mentally. As I got older some of my patches have grown as you can see on my neck it has got way bigger now, and you notice them way more in the summer when I’ve caught a tan.
“I used to hate these patches whereas now I find them so me, I find them kinda edgy and cool, If someone offered me a treatment tomorrow that would get rid of them I hand on my heart would say No! P*** off!”
The star went on to thank those that had encouraged her to talk about the skin condition, as she said that she "owes a huge deal of respect" to the people in question.
Demi ended her post with a positive message to her fans, as she told them: "Please don’t feel like your insecurities should stop you from being you, going out having fun and living happy,”
“Over time you will learn to love yourself a little bit more and more, baby steps eventually add up too giant steps, and I’m proud of every single one of you.”
Demi then took to her Instagram stories as she shared a sweet snap holding her nan's hand, where white patches could also be seen, as she explained that the vitiligo condition was hereditary.
Heartbreakingly, she shared that her nan often "apologises" to her for passing on the condition "because she almost feels guilty" but Demi said she "didn't want apologies" as she sweetly praised her nan for being "brave".
Demi has previously opened up about her vitiligo as she bared all in an exclusive photoshoot and interview with OK!
The star wore the semi-sheer bodysuit that she sported in her recent picture on Instagram, as well as posing naked, as she showed off pale patches around her hips and shoulders.
She revealed how, before she came to accept her body, Demi would order thick body makeup from the US to cover up the patches, and later editing photos on social media.
Opening up on the condition, Demi told us: "It’s been baby steps but I’m finally here and I’m so happy about it. I forget I have vitiligo now."
