'The waiting list is even longer this year' – Irish stars clamour for last minute invite to VIP Style Awards
April 24, 2019They’re the recession-proof fashion accolades that nobody thought would survive the big crash after the Celtic Tiger.
But it seems that the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards are still the hottest ticket in town, with organisers revealing there’s now a “lengthy waiting list” to attend the invitation-only event at the Marker Hotel.
Some 240 guests will be turning on the style to take a trip down the red carpet being rolled out at the southside hotel this Friday.
Hailed as the equivalent of Ireland’s Style Oscars, this year sees the event mark its 18th year in business as some of the best-known faces in showbiz press the flesh at the annual bash. Such is the demand to attend the awards, organisers are being hounded by fashion fans and influencers – only to be told they’ve reached full capacity.
“It’s fair to say the waiting list is even longer this year,” said an organiser. “People are even putting in requests asking if they can buy tickets but as it’s invitational, that’s not possible. We are at capacity this year, there won’t be an empty seat on the night.”
Asked what makes it such a popular event, she said it was a “great industry gathering”.
“It’s known as the Irish style Oscars and a great evening of fun and fashion,” she said.
Among those on the list to attend are RTE stars Miriam O’Callaghan and Jennifer Zamparelli alongside Anna Daly, Bonnie Ryan, Holly Carpenter, Julian Benson and Dancing With The Stars winner Mairead Ronan.
Many of them will be turning to their favourite designer to ensure they look their best on the night with top couture names like Synan O’Mahony, Eamonn McGill and Umit Kutluk set to feature strongly on Friday night.
This year sees an estimated 250,000 votes being cast online on the magazine’s website as the Irish public decide the various winners in each category. Celebrity sisters Aoibhin and Doireann Garrihy will be going head to head in the Most Stylish Woman category while names like Louise Cooney and Triona McCarthy will be fighting for the Most Stylish Online Influencer.
When it comes to Most Stylish Man, actor Johnny Ward is competing with stars like Stephen Byrne and Brian Dowling. There is also a Look of the Year award, which includes RTE presenter Claire Byrne, model Thalia Heffernan and 2fm presenter Louise McSharry.
The Most Stylish Newcomer accolade lists Joanna Cooper, Shona Guerin and Nadine Reid among its contenders for the coveted award.
