Craig David, 40, has revisited his fruitful music career as he spoke to presenter Stacey Dooley, 34, on her show Christmas Round Stacey’s. The singer began his ascent to worldwide fame in 1999, when he featured on the song Re-Rewind by Artful Dodger.

Craig was even made MBE last year for his services to music.

His influence on young people was such that even Stacey pointed out the impact it had on her.

During the conversation Stacey described the musician as a “massive part” of her youth.

Asked by Craig how she was feeling, Stacey could not help but make a candid admission.

She said: “Oh, mate. I’m really well.

“You were such a massive part of my – this sound really over the top, but it’s really true – a massive part of my life and my formative years.

“Like, so many of your songs were like the soundtrack to my youth.”

She continued: “I’m so pleased that we’ve got you.”

Craig responded: “I’m so grateful. When you tell me that it’s the one thing that over the years… it’s the thing that sweetens me.

“Genuinely, knowing that my songs somehow kind of touched into your world and there’s memories you’ve made to one of the songs.

“I don’t know. It just feels kind of magical every time.

“It’s more than chart success. Stories, anecdotes… I love it.”

But Stacey was not the first well-known face to admit her love for Craig’s music.

In a 2018 interview, Craig recounted being introduced to Prince William at an event for the homelessness charity Centrepoint the previous year.

Craig said: “He is the coolest guy ever.

“I was standing next to the future King of England and he was like, ‘Yeah man, I remember when you dropped Fill Me In back in the day’.

“The way he was talking to me was like he had known me forever.

“He is down with the whole thing — as is Prince Harry, which is very exciting.”

William has reportedly previously listed artists including Linkin Park, Coldplay and Eminem among his favourites.

William and Kate had pop star Ellie Goulding perform at their wedding and she sang a rendition of Elton John’s Your Song for their first dance.
