Actress Suranne Jones promised John Barrowman she would be a surrogate mum if he ever wanted kids with his partner, Scott, the entertainer has claimed.

John said they became pals working with Rob Lowe on A Few Good Men in the Theatre Royal, London, in 2005.

In his book Anything Goes, John, 51, said: “I found a surrogate mother for my future children. From the play A Few Good Men I gained a good friend in actress Suranne Jones, or Sarah as she’s known to her mates.”

They would spend hours “talking about everything and anything over a drink or two or three”.

He said: “One night she told me that if Scott and I ever did decide we wanted to have a child of our own, she’d be happy to accommodate us. Perhaps one day I might become a dad, we have a lot of love to give and I adore kids.”

But before going into the jungle, John said he feared he may never have children.

He said: “It has to be a partnership thing and I don’t think Scott is ready.”

Show bosses have been trying to overhaul the Bushtucker Trials so John can take part with his sprained ankle. He has a protective boot and the ankle is strapped. John said: “The ankle is getting better, progressively day-by-day. They’re going to work them [the trials] around me.”

In the Bush Telegraph, John said: “My jungle experience has been awesome. I’ve felt every kind of emotion. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

He also insisted he had invited some of his new friends from camp to his home in LA. John said: “I’m going to stay in touch with everybody.”
