Ronnie James Dio Autobiography To Be Released In July

February 25, 2021

Ronnie James Dio‘s long-awaited autobiography “Rainbow in the Dark” is set to be released on July 27.

“Rainbow in the Dark” chronicles the rock legend’s life and career, in which he fronted three successful bands.

From 1975-1979, he was the frontman of Rainbow, working on the band’s first four studio albums. However, differences with the band’s founder and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore made Dio leave the band.

He later joined Black Sabbath, as a replacement for the band’s legendary frontman Ozzy Osbourne. Dio was part of the band’s classic albums Heaven and Hell (1980) and Mob Rules (1981). He later left the group in 1982 and formed the eponymous band Dio later that year.

According to a statement, “Rainbow in the Dark” will cover all aspects of the rocker’s career, including “everything from his fallout with Ritchie Blackmore, the drugs that derailed the resurrection of Black Sabbath, the personality clashes that frayed each of his three bands, and the huge bet he and Wendy placed together to launch the most successful endeavor of his career…his own band, Dio.”

The book was completed by music writer Mick Wall, who was Dio’s longtime friend. Wall had been working on the autobiography before Dio passed away from stomach cancer on May 16, 2010.
