Rihanna poses with baby boy and A$AP Rocky as she opens up on motherhoodFebruary 15, 2023
Rihanna has opened up about motherhood while posing for an array of super glamorous shots as Vogue’s March cover star.
Earlier this week, the Umbrella singer ended her six-year performance break when she took to the stage as part of the Super Bowl’s highly acclaimed halftime show.
The 34 year old singer also sparked speculation that she was pregnant, which she confirmed shortly after the performance.
As Vogue’s latest cover star, Rihanna was photographed by Inez & Vinoodh alongside her son, who was only referred to as “baby” throughout the piece.
The cover featured the artist on the beach with her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers, carrying her son behind her.
She sported a sensational black ensemble from Valentino, which was styled by editor-in-chief Edward Enninful that flashed her tattoos and highlighted her features.
In the interview, Rihanna dished on everything from being a mum to her return to the music industry.
One notable moment saw the Disturbia singer describe the birth as “beautiful” and reveal that mornings are her favourite as she loves to see her son’s “little wake-up face.”
She continued: “Essentially, from one person I became two," before explaining that she and her partner walked out of the hospital with their bundle of joy, becoming a "family of three".
The doting mum went on to call the first few days as a parent "insane" as they didn't sleep at all. They arrived home and "had no one" to help.
"Man, you’re a zombie for the most part," she said, adding: “I remember in the beginning I used to roll his bassinet into the bathroom and be showering and like wiping the fog off [the glass] just to peep at him."
Amid navigating the ups and downs of parenthood, Rihanna received a call from the NFL after first turning down the show in 2016 in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco quarterback who took a knee while The Star-Spangled Banner was sung.
Rihanna’s mind was seemingly changed following last year’s show which saw Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar give one of the highest-rated performances ever.
She explained that "representing the urban community" on a global scale sends a "really strong message".
Rihanna’s performance saw countless viral stories emerge, with the likes of Adele spotted supporting her friend in the bustling crowd.
The show’s live interpreter, Justina Miles, also went viral for her extremely animated interpretation for any viewers who needed her assistance.
Following her show, Rihanna was sprayed with champagne, and it was later uncovered that she wasn’t paid because, as an NFL spokesperson told Forbes in 2016: "We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs.”
