Prince Harry ‘snubbed dinner with Charles and William on day Queen died after Meghan was banned’September 23, 2022
Prince Harry reportedly turned down a dinner invite with his father King Charles and brother Prince William at Balmoral after his wife Meghan was banned from joining the family on the day the Queen died.
The Duke of Sussex had insisted that his wife join him for the emotional journey to Scotland, but Charles intervened and said it was “not appropriate”, sources claim.
Rather than an outright snub, it is believed that Charles felt saying goodbye to The Queen should be restricted only to close family members, with Kate, the Princess of Wales also excluded.
As the dispute was ongoing, it caused delays in travelling which meant Harry unfortunately missed the RAF flight taken by his brother William, Prince Andrew and Prince Andrew as they raced North to reach the ailing Queen.
Harry was reportedly instructed to make his own arrangements to get to Scotland, and eventually landed at Aberdeen airport without Meghan, at around 6:35pm, just minutes after the news of the Queen’s death was publicly announced to the world.
That same evening, the Duke is also said to have declined a dinner invitation with his father the King, Queen Consort Camilla and Prince William, reports the Sun.
A source claimed to the publication that Harry was “furious” and that his decision to refuse the dinner invitation was seen as a “big snub” at a moment when the family should be pulling together.
Tensions have been heightened between Harry and several members of his family in recent months, particularly his brother William and father Charles, following his decision to emigrate to the US.
While the move itself caused some friction, it was a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that deepened the divide, with the family struggling to recover from the hurt caused by the interview.
The Duke however was keen to try and make amends, and even suggested a third party mediator attend their meeting at the Royal Maundy Service to try and repair the damaged relationship.
Speaking in Vanity Fair a family friend said: “Harry went in with hugs and the best of intentions and said he wanted to clear the air,”
“He actually suggested that they use a mediator to try and sort things out, which had Charles somewhat bemused and Camilla spluttering into her tea.
"She told Harry it was ridiculous and that they were a family and would sort it out between themselves.”
Buckingham Palace and representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been approached for a comment.
