Alec Baldwin appeared frantic and in dismay as he spoke on the phone in a snap uploaded by 56-year-old Piers Morgan on Twitter today. In another picture, the 63-year-old leant over outside Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office appearing to be distressed.
In view of his eight million followers, the journalist wrote: “A distraught Alec Baldwin, after he accidentally shot & killed the cinematographer on the set of his new movie, & wounded the writer-director.
“How on earth could this have happened?.”
Many of his followers flocked to his post to comment, with some querying the need for him to share the pictures on social media.
David T commented: “Why do you have to post this?
The man’s just shot someone completely by accident and you have to post his instantaneous reaction to the trauma? Once a tabloid journo, always a tabloid journo.”
Aiden added: “SOMEONE TOOK A PICTURE?”
Mary penned: “Why are y’all leaking these photos? He feels awful. Take these photos down, & let him grieve normally.”
Alec “discharged” a prop gun that accidentally killed crew member Halyna Hutchins and left director Joel Souza injured, Santa Fe County Police have confirmed in a statement.
The prop weapon was used during filming for the western movie Rust in New Mexico.
Sheriff Juan Rios said: “The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust.
“Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin.”
Alec, who co-produced the film, is said to have spoken with detectives about the incident voluntarily.
