Paloma Faith questions whether monogamy is ‘forced’

Paloma Faith questions whether monogamy is ‘forced’

November 11, 2020

Paloma Faith might be expecting her second child but she is now questioning whether monogamy is natural after admitting her own relationship can sometimes be ‘unbearable’.

The Lullaby singer endured IVF treatment to fall pregnant again with partner Leyman Lahcine but admits it’s not uncommon for a couple to hit the rocks after their firstborn arrives.

‘Humanity has decided we’re meant to be with the same partner for life and actually it isn’t that easy or natural,’ said Paloma, who has a daughter aged three.

‘The question is, is it forced upon us by societal expectation or is it truly in our nature?’ she added.

And the songwriter said her new album Infinite Things — recorded during lockdown — is all about how to endure her long-term relationship.

‘To remain with the person you love is difficult; it can be very dividing and not all relationships survive the first few years after having a child. It’s about a conversation, in terms of artistry, and this album is something different for me,’ said the 39-year-old star.

While her candid admission might shock some — maybe even artist Leyman — Paloma says she is famous because she never sugar-coats things.

Posing in maternity chic for Overdue magazine, she explained: ‘My USP is the fact that I am brutally honest; some people find it shocking and some people find it liberating.

‘I feel like this album will do both of those things — there are songs where I talk about how unbearable it is to be with my partner but I will still stay with him and there are songs where I talk about my child and I say things that aren’t sentimental.’

She said: ‘I wrote the lyrics, “All the joy and all the chaos I see in your eyes that life brings, those infinite things”, because being a mother isn’t idyllic and perfect… you sacrifice a lot.’

Pee for two! Meghan plots a privy that has no privacy

Some say the key to wedded bliss is separate bathrooms — but not mum-to-be Meghan Trainor, who is renovating her home so she can pee alongside hubby Daryl Sabara.

The pregnant singer, 26, feels ‘physically sick’ when the Spy Kids star, 28, is not by her side — so found a new way to reduce the amount of time they spend apart.

‘We are renovating and have an opportunity where we can have two toilets right next to each other,’ she told GP. ‘I don’t even care that the world knows. I’ll post it on Instagram.’

Outgoing Voice UK judge Meghan also revealed she avoided the hell that is 2020 by spending most of this year working on new album, A Very Trainor Christmas.

‘When we got stuck with quarantine I was like, “We are going to bring some happiness to this sad, sad year — with this awesome fun, pop, crazy Christmas album”,’ she said.

‘My brothers and parents were my background singers and wrote the songs with me. We were taking pictures in July and were all sweating buckets in our Christmas sweaters.’

The album is on sale now.

Nathalie’s so happy to have GoT revenge on shoppers

Nathalie Emmanuel had the last laugh after revealing customers used to mock her for working in a shop after she quit Hollyoaks.

The screen beauty went on to leave the checkouts to bag global fame as Missandei in Game of Thrones.

‘It changed my life, in every sense,’ said the 31-year-old.

‘I’d been out of Hollyoaks for a couple of years and was very unemployed, in an acting sense, and working in retail. Some customers who recognised me enjoyed treating me badly… people love a fall from grace.

‘Then Game of Thrones happened and it put the fire back in my belly.’

Now she is working with idols John Travolta, Kevin Hart and Josh Hartnett in Quibi show Die Hart. And they’ve taken her under their wing, she told Rollacoaster magazine.

‘I’m like such a nerd, so I’m freaking out and just trying to pretend to hold it down. But it was great fun. They were really open, warm and welcoming; I was their colleague.

‘They were really generous with their energy, and there was one day where we were filming and they took a photograph of myself, Kevin, John, and Josh. I was basically stood there with all these people that I’d grown up watching, being like, “This is my life, this is crazy”. ’

But Nathalie admits she is reserving judgment on how Hollywood has soaked up messages from the Black Lives Matter movement.

‘I’m excited to see how Hollywood and the world responds. I’m interested to see if people’s outrage is real or whether it was just performative, and whether we see actual change within society,’ she said.

Musk do better… motormouth Grohl has a moan about Teslas

Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl ruled himself out of ever winning an endorsement deal from Elon Musk after complaining his Tesla cars are harder to service than a ‘satellite’.

Grohl put the boot in as he unveiled the rock band’s new album Medicine at Midnight. Turning his chat to four wheels, the Best Of You singer told how he once owned one of the electric cars launched by billionaire Musk.

‘I hate to say it, a Tesla,’ the 51-year-old ex-Nirvana star replied when asked what was the worst car he has ever owned. ‘I mean if something goes wrong with a Tesla it’s like trying to repair a satellite.’

Explaining his gripe he told Absolute Radio: ‘There’s just nothing you can do. You can’t change the oil. You can’t, even if you wanna, change a spare tyre on that thing… you have to call, you know, Elon Musk. It’s insane. Every other car I’ve ever had I could sort of figure it out. This one, I’m lost.’

Zach: I let Florence trounce the trolls over our 21-year age gap

Scrubs star Zach Braff never has to discuss the 21-year age gap between him and girlfriend Florence Pugh again — after she took on trolls directly in an Instagram video.

The US actor, 45, told how the 24-year-old Lady Macbeth star had zero worries when she defended their romance publicly.

‘She literally sat down and hit record on her phone. I thought, “How could I possibly follow anything as intelligent and articulate as that?” So, I chose not to,’ he told Mr Porter.

The British beauty had fumed in her video: ‘I’m 24 years old. I have been working since I was 17 years old, I have been earning money since I was 17 years old. I became an adult when I was 18 years old and I started paying taxes when I was 18 years old.

‘I underline this fact, I am 24 years old. I do not need you tell me who I should and should not love, and I would never in my life ever tell anyone who they can and cannot love.’

Vernon’s blubber stamped for first Bushtucker Trial

Vernon Kay made himself a prime contender for the first Bushtucker Trial of the new series of I’m A Celebrity… by revealing he becomes a blubbering mess when he gets scared.

The 46-year-old, who is wed to Strictly’s Tess Daly, fears he will struggle with squeamish trials at Gwrych Castle, North Wales, when the hit ITV show returns to our screens on Sunday night.

‘100 per cent I will cry,’ the ex-Family Fortunes host said. ‘My favourite film is Forrest Gump. I have seen it at least 100 times. I cry every time I watch it.’

But he feels cocky about cooking dinner in the camp. ‘Let’s be honest, all you do is boil and fry,’ he quipped.

After campmate Shane Richie confessed he needs the money after running out of work in the pandemic, Kay admits he has been left twiddling his thumbs too.

‘I have not been working really this year, and so we will have to see how this goes now,’ he said.

Jodie is my screen dream (girl), admits Baby Queen

Jodie Comer is famous for being obsessive as lesbian assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve — but now she has an admirer of her own.

Baby Queen, 23, says her song Want Me, on new EP Medicine, is about her crush on the Emmy Award winner.

The pop star, real name Bella Latham, said: ‘I remember watching it (Killing Eve) and thinking, “Here we go”.

‘I hadn’t fancied somebody for two years and I don’t have the time for any sort of romantic relationship in my life right now, so it kind of suited me to have a stranger as the object of my affection.

‘I was like, “F***! It’s a song about Jodie Comer”. I can’t fall in love with anyone else.’

Kylie’s Disco lesson for rivals Little Mix

She may be twice their age but Kylie Minogue is set to school Little Mix in a battle to top the UK album chart.

The Aussie pop princess and her girl band rivals have been promoting respective lockdown LPs Disco and Confetti — but midweek sales show Kylie is likely to come out on top. She is also outpacing Sam Smith and Ariana Grande in the race to be No.1.

It means the Magic singer, 52, is on course for an eighth No.1 album in her career — and her third in three years.

You gotta row with it! Liam plans Thames gig

Liam Gallagher promises his live stream gig Down By The River Thames will be ‘celestial’.

The ex-Oasis frontman has filmed a special set, which will air on December 5, and is named after a lyric in song The River from 2019 solo LP Why Me? Why Not.

The Wall of Glass singer, 48, says the gig will be shown exclusively on the MelodyVR web player. Liam will belt out Oasis classics and solo hits on a barge as it sails past the capital’s famous landmarks.

Tickets for the show, priced at £16.50, go on sale at livenation.co.uk at 9am on Friday.
