Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen on not conforming to roles: ‘Who wants to fit in?’November 1, 2021
Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen is known for being outspoken about not confirming to set roles, and the star proves it yet again in her exclusive interview with OK!.
The 47 year old tells us: "Who wants to fit in? I still think if I go back to the beginning of me wanting to be a shepherd as a teenager in Huddersfield, I think that was rebellion.
"Now, people will say things like, 'She has heels, a dress and earrings on and she’s a shepherd,' when I go to an event."
She continued: "Stuff ’em! It doesn’t matter if I’ve got earrings on or a dress, if you want to talk about anything to do with sheep I can have that conversation!"
It’s been quite the week for Amanda, as she’s also had to contend with reports her marriage to husband Clive is in turmoil, stories that prompted him and Amanda to speak out in a strongly worded joint statement.
“We’re a normal family and we’ve never said our marriage is perfect,” the pair, who are known for their smash-hit show Our Yorkshire Farm, explained.
“With the TV show and the books we’ve always aimed to show the reality of life on the farm, and just like any marriage we have our stresses and strains, coupled with all the complexities of what we do on the farm and bringing up nine kids.”
Clive and Amanda also confirmed they had been going through “a rocky patch”.
Later on in our chat, the farming star – who met Clive over 25 years ago – discussed how she is preparing her farm for the cold winter.
"It’s all about getting some order as the cows are laid in the barns for the winter," Amanda says.

"We’re gathering the sheep in, to set up their dates as there’s a lot of thought going into drawing up the tups as it’s mating time."
The mum of nine went on to reveal why her favourite farming season is June, instead of the "long winter".
"All the seasons are very different. It’s very easy to complain that it’s too hot or too cold or too dry," she said.
Amanda continued: "For me, the perfect season is June. It’s such a long winter in the hills that you’re so ready for it."
