Open Post: Hosted By Drake's $400,000 Valentine's Day Gift To HimselfFebruary 19, 2019
While I awaited the candy at CVS to go on sale the day after Valentine’s Day, the Champagne Papi Drake was out here ballin’ just because. And why shouldn’t he? After pretending he didn’t care about winning a Grammy last week he needed something cheap to ensure he stayed humble like the working class. So why not drop $400,000 on a phone case for a device he’ll toss away in about six months? Yes, that’s the mere definition of practicality.
If it comes across like I’m hating please make no mistake, I am. I don’t even have four hundred dollars to my name right now and here’s this dude making it drip for a damn phone case. Clearly I’m in the wrong business. The Glow Up reports that unlike the rest of us who roll our eyes when the salespeople at the phone store try to trick us into buying $50 cases for these flimsy phones that crack as soon as you drop them on a couch cushion, Drake wants nothing but the best for his iPhone. Maybe because that’s where he stores the numbers of all his groupies and he wants them to feel special? Or maybe because he’s rich and can’t be caught dead with the cheap shit. Either way, fuck him. If I had $400,000 I could finally answer my phone when the student loan people call and recite the hook from Baby I Got Your Money by the late ODB.
Here’s the phone case none of us poor folk can afford.
The case is covered in gold, diamonds and features Drake’s owl-based OVO logo and I can guarantee if he ever drops it, people around him will hit the floor instantly to scoop up any diamonds that may pop off. However, since this is a custom piece from luxury jewelers Jason of Beverly Hills I doubt it was cheaply made. CEO Jason Arasheben explained how Drake was looking for something customized with jewels and his eyes lit up with dollar signs thinking of ways to welcome some of Drake’s cash into his bank account.
“As soon as the new iPhone came out Drake reached out to me wanting to create something epic to add to his collection of jewels,” Arasheben said.
Hypebeast did the math, estimating that the case, which is 18k white gold, embedded with more than 80 carats of white and blue diamonds, and has been appraised at approximately $400,000.
I can see this becoming a new trend for celebrities since Drake has opened the door into the world of putting diamonds on relatively inexpensive items that don’t need diamonds. This year, be on the look out for diamond cup holders, diamond lampshades and diamond trashcans next. Though if you’re going to put diamonds on a trashcan you might as well just go on and throw them in with the garbage, because covering anything useless in diamonds is the equivalent of throwing money into the trash anyway.
