Like many of us, Naga Munchetty, 45, is growing increasingly frustrated as her unruly hair continues to grow out on control while lockdown saw all hairdressers and barbers close their doors until Monday [12 April]. The BBC Breakfast presenter sports a pixie cut hairstyle anyway, but it seems her locks were getting beyond the point of no return and she turned to expert for advice on her Radio 5 Live show.

I can’t get bear it anymore, it’s like a big thatch on top of my head!

Now everything’s opening up again, it’s harder than ever to get an appointment when you’re up against the whole of the UK who are in desperate needs of a trim.

But with Naga’s short hair, she admitted she could do it herself if she wanted, however she’s stuck on whether to just grow it out instead for a change.

“I’ve got to ask your advice,” she asked her guest.

“I have lockdown hair and I have the option of chopping it all off as I am getting to that point – that half way point.

“I can’t get bear it anymore, it’s like a big thatch on top of my head!”

But she wondered whether she should chop it all off to her signature style or keep it longer.

The guest replied: “Now’s the opportunity to grow it out if you want to!

“But your hair always looks fabulous, so I wouldn’t worry.”

The BBC star laughed as the expert continued: “If you’ve ever been at that half way point, once you’re through it, you’re really through it!”

Likening her own hair to a birds nest, Naga offered some reassurance.

“I have a birds nest too, we can embrace those!”

Earlier this year, the telly star shared a selfie to her Instagram page following her daily run where she touched upon the state of her growing hair.

But she didn’t go all out unlike in 2020, where she actually chopped it all off by herself.

The BBC Breakfast presenter revealed the results of her own lockdown haircut in May last year, after she admitted she made the big decision to grab the scissors.

As she and co-host Charlie Stayt discussed the increase in at-home haircuts, she said: “I couldn’t take it any more, I actually cut all my hair!

“Many of my make-up friends and hairdressing friends have said, ‘What on earth are you doing?’ but I couldn’t take it.”

“It’s been done and I think I did OK,” she added as she showed off the hair-cut for the cameras.

“It’s neat, there are no chunks out of it – I think it’s OK, a bit messy maybe.”

And after BBC weatherman Matt Taylor joked that there was a “gap” at the back of her head that she couldn’t see, Naga quickly shot back: “There is no gap at the back!”

She gave herself the home haircut the evening before and shared a number of pictures of her DIY process on her Instagram page.

“I couldn’t stop myself,” she captioned the trio of pictures, which include a sink-full of cut hair and one of Naga’s cutting technique, before finishing with a picture of her inspecting the results in a mirror.

“I was only meant to trim the sides! Couldn’t bear the curly bits misbehaving anymore. Ho hum,” she added.
