Judge Motsi Mabuse told Zoe Ball today that she’s never known things to “go so wrong” on Strictly, as the pair reflected on some of the disastrous failed lifts that happened during the show’s quarter finals. Motsi’s comments come as rumours have begun to circulate that judge could be considering leaving the competition due to “discontent” in the judging panel.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 this morning, Motsi revealed that she had never seen such glaring errors whilst on the judging panel before.

Zoe began: “So obviously, we saw a couple of mistakes. We saw that little moment from John and Johannes with the lift.

“And then we saw AJ and Kai miss that lift in the salsa. I mean, everybody’s really nervous now, aren’t they?”

Motsi replied: “Yes, the pressure is high. There’s a lot of nerves.

“And you know never – since I’ve been there for three years – I haven’t seen these major mistakes or for something to go so wrong.

Nevertheless, the Strictly judge remained upbeat about the competition, praising the dancers for keeping their spirits up in spite of their mistakes.

“It was interesting to see and I loved how much humour everybody had and how it didn’t become a big issue,” she said.

“And AJ managed to be in the dance off and pull it off, so it just shows we’re all human and these things do happen.

The judge went on to praise Dan Walker, who left the competition this weekend after he lost the dance off with partner Nadiya Bychkova against Aj Odudu and Kai Widdrington.

The first time AJ and Kai performed their Salsa to Rhythm Is Gonna Get You/Get On Your Feet by Gloria Estefan, they failed to execute a lift towards the end of the dance.

However, they were able to rectify their mistake on a second try and beat out the other pair, who danced a Tango to Santa Maria by Gotan Project.

Last week judge Cynthia Erivo stood in for panel regular Motsi, who was absent from the show.

Motsi missed the live shows that week after coming into close contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19.

As a result, Cynthia stepped in to help judge the contestants on the BBC dance show.

However, an insider has hinted Motsi might be missing from the programme again in the future, as they claim she’s considering leaving Strictly for good.

Motsi first joined the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel back in 2019, taking the place of Darcey Bussell.

In the current series, she sits alongside fellow judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and former Strictly pro Anton Du Beke, who is new to the panel.

However, a source reportedly close to Motsi claimed: “There is discontent. She’s not getting on as well with the other judges, it’s not the same atmosphere as it has been before.

“This isn’t her home and she’s missing it. She’s not feeling the magic this series and she feels like it might be her time to go,” the source told OK! Magazine.

Express.co.uk have contacted Motsi for further comment.

Strictly Come Dancing returns at 7:05pm this Saturday on BBC One.
