Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, has given her 10.9 million Instagram followers an update on her “struggle” with alopecia. The star, who is married to fellow Hollywood actor Will Smith, 53, shared a video yesterday in which she can be seen running her hand around her scalp.

Jada then pointed out a line she had spotted as a result of the disorder.

The actress bravely admitted at the beginning of the clip: “Now at this point, I can only laugh.

“Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here.

“Look at that,” she declared, while showcasing the line on her scalp.

Jada went on to say that the line will be more tricky for her to disguise while out and about.

She added: “So it just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide.”

“So I thought I’d just share it so y’all are not asking any questions.”

Despite her concerns about the area on her scalp, Jada revealed that she had a plan to make the issue look more glamorous.

The creative Matrix Resurrections star said: “But you know mama’s going to put some rhinestones in there. I’m going to make me a little crown. That’s what mama’s going to do.”

In the video’s caption, Jada elaborated on why she decided to post the insight into her health battle.

She penned: “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something.

“Me and this alopecia are going to be friends… period!”

Jada first confirmed she had alopecia back in 2018 during an appearance on her Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk.

The star was chatting to her mum Adrienne and daughter Willow during the episode.

Jada admitted she first noticed something had changed when she lost “handfuls of hair” in the shower one day.

The Madagascar actress explained: “I’ve been getting lots of questions about why I’ve been wearing this turban.

“Well, I’ve been having issues with hair loss. And I’ll tell you it was terrifying when it first started.

“I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair, just in my hands, and I was like ‘Oh my God am I going bald?’ It was one of those times in my life when I was literally shaking with fear.”

Jada then made the decision to shave her head after discussing her alopecia with her daughter.

She said at the time that “it was time to let go”.
