Louise Redknapp reveals how Jamie split is the REAL reason behind ‘raunchy’ music video

April 13, 2019

The former Eternal star, 44, joined BBC Radio 2 presenter Gary Davies 61, in his Sounds of the 80s show last night. Talk soon turned to the sexy video for her comeback single, Stretch, which sees Louise Redknapp parading her sensational figure in a skintight bodysuit and getting up close and personal with a hunky male dancer. “Your new video is quite raunchy, isn’t it?” Gary asked. Giggling, the popstar replied: “Is it quite raunchy?

“I wanted to do a video which was just strong,” she told the host.

Louise went on to explain how the well-publicised breakdown of her marriage to Jamie Redknapp, 45, was partly the inspiration for wanting to do a “strong” music video.

“I felt, personally, like my personal life had been so written about for last two years it had become almost like watching somebody else’s life unfold,” she said.

“I felt this huge expectation about explaining all on the first single and it was just something I felt really passionate about not doing.

“Music’s a passion and a love for me,” she added.

“The first single I felt just needed to have a little bit of guts and gumption.”

Louise and Jamie finalised their divorce at the end of 2017 after 19 years of marriage.

The couple have remained good friends and are co-parenting their two sons, Charley, 14, and Beau, 10.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail’s You Magazine, the singer said she has come to realise her ex-husband wasn’t in the wrong.

“I don’t blame Jamie,” she said. “I wish three years ago I’d been able to just speak up.

“For a long time it was easy to blame him. But actually, in the past six months, I’ve thought, you know what, it was down to me to say, ‘Something’s not right. My self-esteem is really struggling.

“‘I’ve got no passion. I love my kids more than anything in the world. I love what I do, too, and I haven’t quite got the guts to go out and try to do it again.’”

Louise went on to admit she didn’t “speak up” about how she was feeling at the time, saying; “I don’t blame anyone else for that. I wish I’d just gone, ‘Right, the kids are getting older and I love my job and I’m going to give it a real go and Jamie, if you don’t like it, tough. But if you do like it, let’s talk about it.’”

Her candid comments come after she told Heart Breakfast the split had been “tough”.

“[Jamie’s] my best friend,” she said. “It’s been really tough but things happen.

“I saw him yesterday and it was all good,” she continued.

“We had school meetings and stuff, like you do, so all good.”
