Kevin Hart Blown Away by Sold-Out Shows in Australia Amid Oscars ControversyDecember 10, 2018
Kevin Hart has thanked his fans for their support after his sold-out gig in Australia.
The “Ride Along” star took to Instagram on Saturday, December 08 to share a video of the cheering crowd at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
“Two sold-out shows in Sydney, Australia and I gotta tell you, I’m f**king blown away,” the 39-year-old actor yelled in the clip, thanking the audience for their “support.”
“All I can say is WOOOOOOOOW…. Thank you so much Sydney Australia…. Making the world laugh is forever a priority. Blessed to be able to bring laughter on a international level & do what I love!!!! #irresponsibletour #comedicrockstarshit #LiveLoveLaugh,” he captioned the post.
His gigs come after he stepped down as host for next year’s Oscars ceremony, following backlash for past anti-gay tweets.
There was an outcry from the gay and lesbian community when it was announced he had landed the prestigious gig, after a series of derogatory tweets posted by Hart between 2009 and 2011 were reshared on social media.
The comic took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the backlash, urging his critics to “stop looking for reasons to be negative”. He also revealed that the Academy had asked him to apologise for the tweets, but he had refused.
Hart later shared the news that he had pulled out of presenting the Oscars, and offered up an apology to those he had offended.
“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s,” he tweeted at the time. “This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize (sic) to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
A source told Entertainment Tonight that Hart feels “disappointed” and “hurt” that he won’t be hosting the Oscars, but he will move forward from this and ultimately be “good.”
The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 24, 2019 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
