‘I should know better’: Kerry Katona issues a grovelling apology to Molly-Mae Hague for calling her baby daughter Bambi’s name ‘ridiculous’
Kerry Katona apologised to Molly-Mae Hague on Thursday after slamming the influencer and boyfriend Tommy Fury’s choice of name for their baby daughter Bambi last week.
The former singer, 42, took to Instagram to tag the new mother, 23, and admit that she was trying to be funny when speaking out on the name, but has since realised that it’s ‘nothing to do with me’.
Writing in her OK! column last week, the Celebrity Big Brother star explained that she wasn’t a fan of the name Bambi, dubbing it ‘ridiculous’ and suggesting that the new parents have a change of heart.
But now backtracking, Kerry explained that the moniker is actually ‘very, very cute’, as she admitted her guilt over slamming the family – who welcomed the new arrival on January 23, 2023.
She added that she was asked to speak on the name and tried to be funny, but has now realised that it came across harsh, adding: ‘I, of all people, should know better’.

New mother: Molly-Mae welcomed new arrival Bambi Fury with her boyfriend Tommy Fury last month, but has been met with a wave of backlash over the name
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kerry told the camera: ‘So, I just want to say a massive apology to Molly-Mae because I read back my OK! column and I think I’m dead funny but I’m actually not that funny.
‘I think what I say can be funny but it’s actually not and Molly-Mae shouldn’t even listen to anything I’ve got to say. First of all, Bambi Fury, no one is ever going to forget the name. It sounds like a star’s name, it’s unique, it’s beautiful and it’s very, very cute actually. And, you can shorten it by calling her bam-bams..
‘My opinion doesn’t matter at all. The reason why it was in my column was because i got asked to talk about it and when I read it back, it came across really harsh. It’s a little baby for god sake Kerry. D’you know what I mean?’
Kerry continued to say that she was ‘holding my hands up’, as she added: ‘It’s not up to me what you call your baby Molly. She’s absolutely beautiful and I wish you nothing but the best’.
An hour after sharing the apology with her 809K followers, the Atomic Kitten star returned with another video to admit that the incident has been bothering her.
‘Yeah, it’s really played on my mind this has. I personally haven’t seen any backlash or anything from what I said, but when I saw it in my column I thought: “Bloody hell Kerry that sounds a bit harsh,” I was trying to be a comedian,’ she reiterated.
Extending her support to new mother Molly-Mae, Kerry continued: ‘Since I said it, it really, really played on my mind and I would never wanna bring anyone down, I would never want to bully anybody or hurt anybody – I’m not that kind of person in the slightest’.
Ending by making a joke out of her own name choices, she added: ‘What can I say, my son is made after Max Clifford [Elmbridge PR guru]. That says it all really, what do I know? Ignore me’.

Feeling bad: Kerry admitted that seeing the backlash Molly-Mae and Tommy have had, she felt guilty
Following the clips, which Kerry tagged Molly-Mae in, she also shared a grab of a MailOnline article which detailed the backlash that the influencer and her boxer beau had received over their daughter’s name.
Writing over the grab, Kerry explained: ‘This is the article that made me feel like a right w***er!! I of all people should know better!’ before again extending her apologies.
Molly-Mae and Tommy announced the news that they had safely welcomed Bambi via natural birth just last week, before sharing the little one’s name with it written into a neon sign.

But in her column for the magazine, Kerry claimed the name decision was ‘ridiculous’ and that the former Love Island stars should consider changing their mind.
She went on to vent her worries that the ‘poor kid’ will get bullied at school due to the unusual title.
The ex Celebrity Big Brother housemate wrote in her OK! column: ‘It’s lovely news, but I must admit I’m not a fan of the name.
‘I think Bambi Fury sounds a bit ridiculous. It reminds me of the Disney film where the mother gets shot!
‘They should change it!’Last week, Kerry claimed the name decision was ‘ridiculous’ and that the former Love Island stars should consider changing their mind
‘The poor kid might get some stick in school. If they haven’t registered the name yet, maybe they should consider changing it.’
Molly-Mae responded to the backlash over her daughter’s name while talking to YouTube this week, as she remarked: ‘I was brought back down to earth very quickly of how nasty this world can be.’
She also told how she was initially apprehensive about revealing the name, and was left stunned by the feedback before being forced to switch off Instagram comments.
Despite the negativity, the star gushed how much she loved the moniker, revealing it was ‘beautiful’ and ‘unique’ – with the influencer having loved the name for years.
She explained: ‘The name reveal was a hard day for me. I switched Instagram comments off on that post. I was brought back down to earth very quickly of how nasty this world can be.
‘Because we’d literally known that our first baby girl was going to be called Bambi, we had gotten so used to the idea that that was going to be her name and to us it wasn’t really that unusual anymore.
‘And I know it’s unusual and unique and not going to be to everyone’s taste, but when we announced it, in my mind it was just beautiful, it’s her, she’s Bambi and that’s a beautiful name, amazing, amazing…
‘And then just two seconds after posting it I was like, “oh my God!”‘
Earlier in the video in which she initially held Bambi, she addressed the name as she introduced the tot to the camera, cooing: ‘Will you say “hi everyone, I’m Bambi. Nice to meet you. I’m Bambi Fury, that’s my name. I know some people may not like it, but I love it!”‘
The name Bambi is of Italian origin and is thought to derive from the word ‘bambino’, which means ‘child’.

Molly-Mae had previously admitted she always knew what she was going to call her daughter, adding that she knew some of her fans wouldn’t like it.
In a previous YouTube Q&A she said: ‘It’s not made up, it’s totally not made up, I can’t explain it. It’s just not a name that’s ever been used before. It’s very very different and rare and you’re either going to love it or hate it.
‘I’ve had the name picked out since I was a baby girl myself. It’s always been a dream baby girl name and luckily when I met Tommy and I told him the name I’ve always dreamt of using, he absolutely loved it too.
‘It’s a really really unusual and a different name, I do not know anybody else with the name. I’ve not seen any other girls with the name before, it’s that different.’
It comes after the influencer revealed that she managed to have a natural birth as she had hoped for, as opposed to a caesarean section.
Dubbing the birth ‘the biggest and best achievement of my whole entire life,’ the star went on to detail that she ‘couldn’t wait’ to share more details with fans.
Molly-Mae previously shared to fans that she was hoping to have a natural birth and would ‘try my hardest to push baby girl out’.
And confirming that this was possible with an update on Saturday, the influencer shared a picture of some poloroid snaps from the delivery room.

She penned: ‘The start of labour❤️ A lot of you have asked if I was able to have a natural birth as Tommy was wearing scrubs in our first pic… yes I was able to have a natural delivery
‘I can’t wait to tell you all about it soon. Biggest and best achievement of my whole entire life.’
Representatives for Molly-Mae told MailOnline earlier this week: ‘Molly and Tommy feel so blessed to have welcomed a healthy baby girl in to their family on the 23rd of January 2023.
‘They are enjoying every moment. Molly and baby are both doing well.’
Big reveal: Molly-Mae shared a snap of her baby girl’s name in illuminated letters overlooking her little girl in her cot, having previously admitted some would ‘hate’ it
Earlier in the day Ulrika Jonsson defended Molly-Mae Hague after she splashed out £8K for newborn daughter Bambi’s cot and came under fire for the tot’s name.
The TV presenter, 55, slammed people who criticised the influencer for their ‘envy’ and said she is entitled to spend her money as she pleases.
Molly-Mae, who welcomed her first child with partner Tommy Fury last month, left fans gob-smacked when she announced the name of her newborn with a photo of the luxurious crib.
Ulrika said: ‘She is getting trolled for calling the newborn Bambi – but I think, why not? It’s sweet enough.
‘Of course, much of the criticism is based on envy. Molly-Mae is entitled to do whatever she wants with her money.’
She continued in her column for The Sun: ‘Mere mortals can only dream of a nursery like little Bambi’s, who will be utterly oblivious to the overindulgence surrounding her.’
Ulrika went on to explain that it reminded her of when she welcomed her first child and felt that everything had to be perfect.
