Kaley Cuoco Has A Hilarious Response To Losing At The Golden Globes

March 1, 2021

The 2021 Golden Globes were notable for several different reasons. First and foremost, amidst increasing pressure over the lack of diversity in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association voting body, the night saw several POC taking home wins including Daniel Kaluuya for Judas and the Black MessiahChloe Zhao for Nomadland (which also won Best Motion Picture — Drama) and a posthumous nod for Chadwick Boseman, for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (via the Los Angeles Times). Sacha Baron Cohen, during his acceptance speech for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, for Borat 2, even thanked the “all-white” HFPA, in a cheeky nod (via ET).

As BuzzFeed noted, there were several dodgy moments throughout the live broadcast, including Kaluuya being momentarily muted during his acceptance speech. There were several shocks on the night too, but most winners seem to have been accepted and in certain cases even heralded by viewers. One person who took her loss remarkably well was actress Kaley Cuoco, whose performance in The Flight Attendant was nominated on the night. The former Big Bang Theory star took it on the chin in a manner everybody watching at home could relate to, and then some.

Kaley Cuoco is all of us right now

Cuoco donned a stunning, gray, strapless Oscar de la Renta princess gown for her big night, complemented by Stuart Weitzman heels, Harry Winston jewels and loose, tousled hair, as per People. Although the TV star didn’t emerge victorious — she lost out to the legendary Catherine O’Hara, so at least that’s something — she didn’t let her glitzy look go to waste. The comedic actress took to Instagram to share a tongue-in-cheek post noting, “I would like to thank… never mind!!” alongside a shot of her sitting on the floor of her home clutching a bottle of champagne, looking disgruntled, and surrounded by treats including pizza, mac and cheese, and cupcakes.

O’Hara won for her role in Schitt’s Creek. She and Cuoco were nominated alongside Elle Fanning for The Great, Jane Levy for Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and, in one of the most controversial nods, Lily Collins for Emily in Paris, in the Best Actress – Television Series, Musical or Drama category. It was the Big Bang Theory alum’s very first Golden Globes nom, and she was overwhelmed with emotion upon initially learning she’d been chosen, sharing a video of her crying hysterically. Evidently, however, it meant a lot to Cuoco just to be considered and she celebrated/drowned her sorrows in a manner befitting the current situation — if eating pizza in a designer dress makes her feel better, why not?
