Janeane Garofalo Stands by Louis C.K.: Enough With the Criticism

January 15, 2019

AceShowbizJaneane Garofalo labelled the criticism of disgraced comedian Louis C.K. “unfair”.

The funnyman’s career was derailed in 2017 after he admitted sexual misconduct, subsequently taking a break from the comedy circuit. He made his controversial comeback last month, December 2018, and hit headlines when he made jokes about the Parkland school shooting survivors.

However, Janeane isn’t a fan of the constant criticism of her long-time friend Louis, raging on the feminist Bust podcast: “Leave Louis C.K. alone. Enough with that. He’s been my friend – and I stand by that – he’s been my friend since 1985, and I think he has suffered.”

“And when he performs at the Comedy Cellar and people get all irate, if nothing else, care about his daughters. If nothing else – if you can find no compassion for him, which I think you should – think about how his daughters, who hear all of this stuff, feel. Why don’t you leave him alone for them if you’re so women-empowering?”

Louis made the tasteless jokes while performing at the Governor’s Comedy Club in Long Island, New York on 16 December, when he suggested that the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting had hidden behind a “fat kid”.

“You’re not interesting because you went to a high school where kids got shot,” he said. “Why does that mean I have to listen to you? Why does that make you interesting. You didn’t get shot. You pushed some fat kid in the way and now I gotta listen to you talking.”

Talking about his sexual misconduct scandal, in which the comedian admitted he had masturbated in front of several women, Janeane said the treatment of her friend was bullying, and called him a “public pariah.”

“I think you’re running with what you’ve been told in the (media) – he is not a person who walks into a room and powerfully takes his d**k out,” she told the podcast hosts. “He has paid heavily, heavily, and his family has paid heavily.”
