Jane McDonald on finding love again after fiancé’s death and ‘coping mechanism’

Jane McDonald has opened up on being single, and planning on staying single, after losing her fiancé Eddie Rothe to lung cancer in 2021.
Two years on, the Cruising with Jane McDonald star, 60, has now insisted she is “not bothered” about finding love again, and has instead been relying on the support of her female friends after Eddie’s death.
Jane told MailOnline: “I’m not bothered. I’m really not. I don’t feel like I need someone in my life to make it fulfilled.”
Ahead of the debut episode of her new Channel 5 travel series, Lost in Japan, the singer spilled on how her close pals have helped her to cope throughout her grief.
She added: “We have a coping mechanism. I have a great group of girlfriends now, who are all in the same situation, we have a great time, we go out, we have dinner, drinks, parties round each others’ houses.

“We’re all in the same boat and it’s lovely to know that there’s someone there that you can call at three o’clock in the morning and say, ‘I’m having a bad day.’
“I don’t feel like I need anyone,” Jane admitted.
Despite her positive attitude, the star shared she did feel “frightened” about “starting again” without The Searchers musician in her life.
Jane explained: “I think back now with such joy and such love and that’s how I progress now. It’s a journey. All the things you thought you were going to do, but you have to make a new life.

“It’s like starting again and that’s frightening for anyone. But we all find our way.”
Jane’s partner Eddie died at the age of 67 after battling lung cancer.
The couple had known each other since they were just teenagers, but went on to reconnect later in life.
Jane and Eddie reunited in the early noughties and got engaged back in 2008.
The singer was previously married to Henrik Brixen from 1998 to 2003.
Jane McDonald: Lost In Japan begins tomorrow night at 9pm on Channel 5.
