Former Loose Women star Jane McDonald, 57, regularly entertains viewers with her travels aboard cruise ships overseas. The small-screen star surprised fans when she announced she would be quitting her hugely popular Channel 5 shows earlier this year.

The singer has now opened up about what she misses most about cruising after the travel industry was shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic which resulted in a nationwide lockdown.

Jane admitted she “loved” her job working aboard cruise ships and dished on what she’ll miss most about taking to the high seas – most notably a “permanent tan”.

“Cruising was a job I loved – I had a permanent tan, I was seeing the world and getting paid for it. What’s not to love about that?” she explained.

“I would recommend working on a cruise ship to anyone – it’s a wonderful career.”

Jane continued: “My cabin was no bigger than a broom cupboard, but I still had the time of my life.”

Due to the suspension of operations by many cruise lines as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, a large number of cruises have been cancelled.

While Jane may have to forego taking a cruise at the moment, she teased plans for her next holiday destination.

She continued to World of Cruising: “The Caribbean. I love it there, and I’m looking forward to some sun.”

Jane rose to fame when she appeared on the BBC’s The Cruise documentary series in 1998.

The TV personality’s Channel 5 shows – which have attracted millions of viewers – have included Holidaying with Jane McDonald, Jane McDonald & Friends and, perhaps most famously, Cruising With Jane McDonald.

Her most recent series, Holidaying with Jane McDonald & Friends, saw her road-test dream breaks with the help of some showbiz pals.

Speaking about her TV departure, Jane explained on her official website that she wanted to focus on her “music and tours and exciting new projects”.

She said: “By now you will have seen the news about me stepping away from my shows on Channel 5. It’s been an incredible four and a half years of travelling, 38 Cruises and over 100 flights.

“It’s now time for me to spend some time in the UK, concentrate on my music and tours and exciting new projects.”

Jane continued: “I want to offer my most sincere thanks to everyone who has worked on all my shows. Everyone at Channel 5 and Viacom International Studios who have all helped make the most incredible and successful programmes.

“It’s been a total joy to work with everyone and thank you very much to everyone who has watched and supported the shows. I have had a blast!”

Elsewhere, Jane is geared up to headline her UK tour Let the Light In which will start next year.

Due to the current pandemic, the performer was forced to postpone her musical tour and reschedule numerous tour dates.

Taking to Twitter, Jane announced her latest show which will take place in Milton Keynes.

In view of her 157,000 followers, she penned: “New Date for Milton Keynes: This show will now be on Sunday 25th July 2021. All tickets will be automatically valid for the new date – so if you are a ticket holder you just need to put the new date in your diary and I’ll see you then!”

Cruising With Jane McDonald airs tonight on Channel 5 at 7:30pm.
