Inside Gemma Collins' unconventional Nobel Peace Prize nominationSeptember 23, 2020
Gemma Collins has been nominated for a Nobel Peace prize in a bizarre turn of events. But it is 2020, after all – anything can happen.
The GC has accomplished some pretty big things in her time, but this might be her biggest plaudit yet.
It was recently revealed that the newly-founded and aptly named Romford Research Institute For Peace had nominated Gem for her efforts to ‘promote peace and harmony in Essex and beyond’.
The nomination called to attention her ‘peaceful resolution’ in her relationship with her ex-boyfriend James Argent which, thankfully, ended in ‘minimal armed conflict’.
Gemma, 39, is definitely one of the more unconventional nominees – and has actually been put forward alongside the likes of Kanye West and Mickey Mouse.
YouTube stars Josh Pieters and Archie Manners, who are best known for their prank on right-wing columnist Katie Hopkins, are the brains behind the unusual nominations, and they have opened up to Metro.co.uk about what exactly happened behind the scenes.
‘Donald Trump has obviously been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which became a massive story all over the world,’ Josh explained. ‘And then he in fact acknowledged it, and was using it as a way to encourage people to vote for him by talking about how magnificent he was.
Josh added: ‘I like to keep my political views to myself but I do think that the President of the United States is someone that should be open to being made a bit of fun of.
‘So whether it was Donald Trump or anyone else I think you should be allowed to make fun of that person and he obviously allows himself to be made fun of more than most. So, this seems like a worthy person to to challenge.’
As for what’s set to happen next, Josh laughed: ‘I suppose the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize are going to have to decide whether either Gemma Collins, Mickey Mouse, Kanye West, Donald Trump or maybe a proper worthy candidate wins the prize.’
But, more importantly, is Gemma in with a chance? Josh is pretty convinced, declaring: ‘I think the GC is in with a sterling chance.’
Reps for Gemma declined to comment. Metro.co.uk has contacted the Nobel Foundation for comment.
