Harry and Charles ‘set date for peace talks – but Meghan will stay home’

After months of tension between King Charles and his son Prince Harry, there now seems to be hope of a reconciliation on the horizon with talks ongoing between the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace to broker peace between father and son.

According to a well-placed source, Prince Harry is due to fly back to California via London at the conclusion of this year’s Invictus Games trip to Germany next month, with talks likely to take place between the pair on September 17.

“King Charles is due to return to London from Balmoral in the middle of September which ties with the end of Harry’s Invictus Games trip to Dusseldorf,” the source told OK!

“The King has a rescheduled official visit to France on September 20 so has a few days to spare in London to meet with his son. Staff are trying to fine-tune the details as we speak,” the source adds.

During the same conversation, the source also went on to reveal the significance of this meeting as they explained how it would be the first personal meeting between father and son since the launch of Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare in January.

The King in particular was said to have been deeply hurt by some of the claims made in the book, particularly those that are aimed at his wife, Queen Camilla.

“The King loves his son very much but he has been mortally wounded by what he has done. He will always be there for him but draws the line at public slanging matches.

“If the talks take place, the King will make it very clear that there will be absolutely no private family business discussed in public moving forward,” the source said.

Although it is currently confirmed that Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle will accompany Harry to the Invictus Games, the source did point out it was “highly unlikely” that she would be present at any talks between Harry and the King.

OK! has reached out to the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace for comment.

Tensions have been high among Prince Harry and his royal relatives since he made the decision to step away from life as a working royal back in January 2020, in order to move to the United States with his wife Meghan in what widely became referred to as “Megxit”

Since then, the Prince also earned further ire from his family, in particular his brother Prince William and his father, after he and wife Meghan made a number of scathing claims about the family during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

During the interview, the couple accused the royal family of racism and claimed that “concerns had been raised over the colour of their unborn child’s skin”

The couple also claimed that the family had been far from supportive during Meghan’s transition to royal life, leading the actress to contemplate suicide as a way to escape.

To add further insult to injury, the couple later made another string of damning claims in their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, which aired just weeks after Queen Elizabeth had tragically died.

During the documentary, Harry accused his brother William of leaking stories to the press, while also recalling a tense discussion with his brother, in which he claims the elder royal “screamed at him” after revealing he was planning to move to the US with Meghan.

A further wave of tension would also follow in January 2023, when Harry’s own memoir Spare hit the bookshelves and levelled a number of scathing claims about King Charles’ wife Camilla.

Labelling her as “dangerous” and a “villain”, Harry didn’t hold back as he shared his feelings with readers, while also recalling how he had begged his father not to marry her.

If the peace talks go ahead as planned, it would mark the first time Prince Harry and King Charles have seen each other since the King’s Coronation at Westminster Abbey back in May.

Harry famously attended the prestigious formal ceremony, which was held on his son Archie’s birthday, earlier this year, before racing back home to attend the youngster’s birthday party once the official crowning had been completed.
