Gemma Atkinson, 35, who played Lisa Hunter in the Channel 4 soap, caught up with her former Hollyoaks co-stars Alex Carter and Kelly Condron on the latter’s Dog in the Pond podcast. They discussed behind-the-scenes antics during their time together in the soap.

I look back now and I was just far too young to get married

At one point in the chat, Kelly asked the pair where they would like to be if they were in a soap now.

Gemma joked she would like to be in Coronation Street’s Rovers Return “with some Old Trafford footballer”.

Her joke led Kelly to bring up Gemma’s past relationship with ex footballer Marcus Bent, 42.

She said to Gemma: “You were clearly attempting to be a WAG at one point.”

The former Strictly Come Dancing star replied: “I know, I was engaged to Marcus, he was lovely.

“I was just too young, I was only 23 and at the time I thought I was old enough and mature enough, but I look back now and I was just far too young to get married.”

The former couple dated for three years after meeting at a party. They confirmed their split in 2008.

Kelly then asked if Gemma had spoken to Marcus recently, to which she replied: “I’ve not spoken to him in years.”

She then joked he was at her home and helping her boyfriend Gorka put their 11-month-old daughter Mia to bed.

The former actress went on to say: “We don’t speak but if we ever bumped into each other, there’d be no bad blood because nothing bad happened.

“It was just I was too young and he was older than me, you panic a bit.”

Recalling the situation as a new mum to her daughter, Gemma added: “Imagine Mia at 23 saying ‘I’m engaged’, I’d be like ‘Oh, listen’.

The podcast host went on to ask Gemma how she would be if Mia got up to the things she used to do in her younger years.

“I don’t want to be one of those mums who are like, ‘Don’t do this don’t do that’,” she explained.

She added that her mum allowed her to do what she wanted to an extent in her younger years, but revealed she had to follow some rules.

“If anything bad happened or if I broke my curfew I wouldn’t do it again,” she added. “She never put a boundary on me.”

The actress recently said she is unsure if the pair will tie the knot in the future.

She told Hello! Magazine: “People are always commenting on our Instagram photos with, ‘Put a ring on it’ and I think, shouldn’t you ask if I want to get married?

“No, I think how we are is perfect.”
