Donny Osmond, 64, has been married to his beloved wife Debbie Osmond since 1978. However, the pair have faced difficult moments, including when their relationship first became public, as Donny opened up about the letters she received.

Donny was a teen idol in the 1970s, with women and girls around the world fawning over the beloved singer.

However, alongside the adoration, Donny has admitted there was a darker side to the fame.

This was especially the case when he began dating women.

He met his wife in the mid 1970s but the star has admitted he had to keep their romance quiet.

This is because he didn’t want teenage gossip magazines to find out the truth.

The Puppy Love singer opened up about this in a recent interview on the Drew Barrymore Show last week.

He said of their relationship: “I dated her secretly for three and a half years because I didn’t want Tiger Beat [magazine] to find out.

“And then once the news got out that I got married…

“And maybe some of you [the audience] did this, I won’t hold it against you.

“The fans literally had Donny Osmond record burning parties and sent the most scathing letters to Debbie.

“She’s this sweet little girl from Montana, she’s the most amazing woman and saved my life.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Donny labelled these as the “dark years” for him professionally.

However, he admitted this was in contrast to his personal life where he “couldn’t be happier”.

Donny has previously opened up about how his father warned him about the impact marrying Debbie would have on his career as well.

In a piece in The Guardian back in 2017, he wrote: “While the world knew me as a teen idol, and the Osmonds fame was at its height, I began secretly dating Debbie Glenn.

“By the time I was 19, I knew I was in love and had to do something right for me.

“When I told my dad, he said: ‘Well, there goes your career, but this is ushering in your personal life.’”

The singer then added: “My dad was right about my career after I got married.

“But Debbie is an amazing person to be with. If I hadn’t married her, I’d have been a mess.

“Now I had someone who understood me and with whom I could build a future together.”
