BBC Breakfast presenter and Strictly Come Dancing 2021 contestant Dan Walker, 44, weighed in on egotistical celebrities while getting involved in a Q&A session with his 743,000 Twitter followers last night. Dan encouraged fans to ask him any of their burning questions while he had some spare time during a train journey.

One of his Twitter followers, Jo-Anna Grove, was keen to find out what keeps the BBC star’s feet on the ground despite his fame and successful career on-screen.

She penned: “Dan, you seemingly are such a genuinely lovely man.

“You don’t seem to have any celebrity airs and graces.

“What keeps your feet (and ego) on the ground? You are such an inspiration.”

Appreciating the compliment, Dan wrote back: ”That’s very nice of you.”

He went on to credit his Christian faith, along with his wife Sarah Walker and their children, for keeping his ego in check.

He continued: “Family and faith are very important in all of that.

“I am very thankful to have been given the opportunities which have come my way.

“I also can’t stand it when someone starts to believe their own hype.

“I also like cake and curry,” the newsreader quipped.

Fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on Dan’s insight.

Sarahvikings penned: “I think another thing is remembering where you are from. All to often you see people from normal upbringing doing well and forgetting where they came from and the people that helped back then – well done to you.”(sic)

A third fan, meercatdan84, joked that Dan could have been aiming a thinly-veiled dig at his former breakfast TV rival Piers Morgan.

The Twitter user simply demonstrated his point by tagging the ex Good Morning Britain presenter into his comment.

It comes after Dan hit back at Piers’ swipe over his exit from Strictly in the quarter finals alongside his partner Nadiya Bychkova.

Dan had taken to Twitter to thank the professional dancer for being “the best teacher I could ever have hoped for” in a sweet post after their departure from the competition.

However, Piers issued a brutal dig in response, replying sarcastically to Dan in view of his 7.9 million followers: “You came fifth, mate. She needed a better pupil.”

Refusing to let Piers’ swipe get to him, Dan was quick to issue a witty comeback.

The BBC star cheekily mocked the former ITV presenter’s infamous exit from GMB, which saw him storming off the set following an argument with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Dan posted a GIF of the memorable moment, as he fired back at Piers: “Morning.

“I did think about walking off when @CraigRevHorwood gave me some grief in week 2 but… who does that?”
