BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst had planned to do a 26 mile walk for charity but, in a turn of events, ended up rushing her son to A&E instead.

Nina, 41, took to Twitter to share the news with her followers and revealed that she wouldn’t be doing the lengthy walk for Alzheimer's Society as she’d ended up at Wythenshawe Hospital with one of her two young sons.

“Supposed to be walking 26 miles for @alzheimerssoc today, but life took a different turn,” Nina began her tweet.

“5 hours in A&E ain’t so bad when the paed staff are attentive, kind & keep you updated. He cried as we LEFT! Thanks @WythenshaweHosp”.

Nina also thanked those who had donated to her fundraiser, and promised to “do the miles somehow”.

Nina has since been inundated with support from her followers, wishing her little boy a speedy recovery.

“Wishing a speedy recovery, good luck on the 26 and#ThankYouNHS,” wrote one person.

“Oh no! Lots of love to you all,” said someone else, followed with a heart emoji.

“Sorry you couldn't be with us today, Nina. Hope everyone is okay and thank you for your support,” wrote the Alzheimer's Society.

Meanwhile, someone from the hospital thanked Nina for her kind words about the staff there.

They said: “Nina thank you for the lovely feedback about our paediatric ED nursing staff, they will be very appreciative @karenklmmoore @mrs_flatley Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your son and hope you manage to do your walk”.

Since sharing the news on Saturday, June 25, Nina hasn’t given any further update on how her son’s doing.

Just last week, Nina revealed she’d raised more than £800 in one evening for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Sharing a photo with her husband, a Manchester-based caterer, she wrote: “We put on a fundraiser for the @alzheimerssoc last night, as a tribute to my Dad, as we continue to ride the waves of this illness. We made more than £800…

“Dad’s living with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia, so we never know what each day will bring. Today he was on cracking form… telling me about how good he is at headers, remembering the boys’ names, and taking the mick out of my signature impatience.”
