BBC Breakfast star gives birth to baby boy – ‘I’m smitten and so in love’August 28, 2023
BBC Breakfast star Emma Vardy has given birth to a baby boy.
The presenter shared to social media that she'd welcomed a son named Jago Fionn, saying she's already "smitten and so in love" as she smiled for a picture with the newborn.
Emma – who works as Ireland correspondent for BBC news – has stood in for Nina Wadhurst as business correspondent recently, as Nina herself headed off on maternity leave.
Adding a caption to her post, Emma said to her almost 7,000 followers, "Presenting my best breaking news ever. Baby boy Jago Fionn is here At just a few hours old, playing a little camera shy.
"Huge thanks to the dedicated & talented midwives & doctors at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital, for looking after us so well. Smitten & so in love."
The broadcaster welcomed her first child alongside her husband of one year Aaron Adams, who is already a father from his past.
Tying the knot in March 2022 with a Northern Ireland wedding, the pair then enjoyed a magical honeymoon to Hawaii two months later – before now adding to their family.
Just weeks ago, Emma signed off from BBC reporting duties to prepare to give birth, admitting that she did not know that her arrival would be a boy at the time – holding up a blue T-shirt and a red T-shirt as she wondered.
In the caption for her humorous and exciting post, Emma wrote: "Well that's me off on mat leave!! Resigned to an eternity of housewife chores & dirty laundry. Career girl out. (And if u believe that you'll believe anything). Celebrated the start of this new chapter with cocktails at this perfectly disguised speakeasy!! #TheWashhouse."
Emma has been a well-known face on BBC shows for many years and has worked as the Ireland Correspondent but had been taking on BBC Breakfast in the weeks prior to her maternity leave.
The TV star has been keeping fans updated with her pregnancy journey, which she announced on social media in May, and lamented that certain activities, like Surfing, are no longer possible for her.
Announcing the news with a beach snap, Emma jested that while it was 'harder to balance' with her new bump, she was looking forward to welcoming the little one.
"Well it’s definitely getting a bit harder to balance….extra cargo hitching a ride!! Still managing to catch a few waves though. Beautiful weekend in Co Sligo, and a very exciting summer ahead!!" wrote the journalist on Instagram.
