June 19, 2023

Arctic Monkeys have cancelled their Dublin show with just one day’s notice following the news that their frontman Alex Turner has been truck down with acute laryngitis just says before their upcoming Glastonbury headline set.

The band were supposed to be performing at Marlay Park in Dublin, Ireland tomorrow, while fans are also excitedly anticipating their Glastonbury headline set this coming weekend.

Sadly, 37-year-old Alex has now been ordered to rest by doctors, which means he is not able to perform tomorrow.

The band have since issued a heartfelt apology to their Irish fans with an announcement this afternoon, where they explained all ticket holders would be receiving full refunds.

The band shared in a statement to their 6.7 million Instagram followers: “We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys’ show at Marlay Park in Dublin Tomorrow.

“Alex is suffering from acute laryngitis, and following medical advice, has been ordered to rest.

“Alex and the band apologise for the huge disappointment this will inevitably cause to all their Irish fans.

“Full refunds will be credited back to the ticket purchaser’s account by Ticketmaster within the next six working days.”

The English rock band delighted fans by returning to the stage earlier this month, already performing their stage show in locations including Manchester, London and their Sheffield hometown.

Arctic Monkeys first formed back in 2002 and the group consists of frontman Alex, guitarist and keyboard player Jamie Cook, bass guitarist Nick O’Malley and drummer Matt Helders.

Andy Nicholson was also formerly a part of the band but left in 2006 shortly after their debut album was released.

Arctic Monkeys are currently promoting their latest album, The Car, and are set to finish their UK tour on June 25 in Glasgow.

Following the news of their cancelled show, the band’s fans flocked to social media to send their well wishes to Alex.

Corey wrote: “That sucks man, but health always matters more.”

“Speedy recovery, Alex,” added Sinar, while Imani penned: “This is so sad. May Alex Turner get well soon.”

Edith also pleaded with some less sympathetic fans, commenting: “Can y’all let him be, I’d rather he rest and recover to keep performing rather than push himself dangerously.”
