Angela Scanlon on family plans putting Strictly on hold
Angela Scanlon has revealed that the “jury is out” on whether she will adopt Strictly’s signature fake tan look when she appears in this year’s show, while some fans actively urged her to step outside the box and “ditch it”.
Taking to Instagram to share a new snap with her 267,000 followers, the 39-year-old explained that she was a “SPF 50 all day every day kind of girl” and wasn’t sure if the bronzed look was for her.
The proud redhead, who hails from Ireland – a location containing one of the largest populations of redheads out of anywhere in the world – is known for her trademark locks and pallor.
She has even discussed the topic at length on Oi Ginger! a special investigative episode that aired on Irish TV and delved into the world of fiery-haired people.
She invited followers to give their thoughts on the tan debate – a dilemma also discussed by Will Mellor in 2022, declaring: “Jury is out on the #Strictly tan… thoughts below?”

The request prompted @kirsten_irvine to reply: “As a fellow red head, it would be so refreshing to see someone ditch the tan!
“You are BEAUTIFUL and I (among many others, I’m sure!!) would love to see my own skin tone unfiltered on the tv…representation is important in every way.”
@speccyfoureyes chimed in: “Go au naturel and blow their minds! Casper the glittery ghost legs FTW!”
@alice.h.44 weighed in with: “Please stay pale and as you are…. I think us redheads don’t suit fake tan…”

@kac1511 added: “Oh god yeah you can’t go from Irish Colleen to American tan girl… stay au natural!”, while @annchricton insisted: “Sophie Ellis Bexter kept her beautiful pale look!”
However, some felt she should take the plunge and try out the new look, with @kelly.hamon1972 suggesting: “Do it, it’s fake, and go with as much glitter as possible. You don’t need dark fake tan, only light. Embrace everything xx.”
@kathj70 urged: “Get dipped in a vat of fake tan and roll in all the glitter! Go hard or go home! Good luck, you’ll be great.”
Meanwhile, in the caption of her latest post, Angela playfully clarified: “For those asking, it’s not a prank, I am ACTUALLY doing #Strictly. I swear there’s a glam b**** in here somewhere!”
“Seriously though, thank you SO much for all the gorgeous messages of luck & love & LOLS since yesterday. I’m completely overwhelmed & feel very lucky to have such a lovely bunch on here & in real life!!”
She added: “I can’t respond to everyone but have seen all [the messages] & you have no idea how much I appreciate the support. I didn’t realise how nervous I was until I unleashed the beast!”
The presenter, who appeared last night on BBC Two’s Your Home Made Perfect, warned that she might need someone to “pass the plasters” once the action heats up.
However, she added: “I can’t wait to get going!”
