The perfect palettes to give this gifting season

The perfect palettes to give this gifting season

October 10, 2021

Getting ready early for Christmas, or failing that, Black Friday?

Palettes are a safe way to go for the makeup wearer in your life – they’re special, long-lasting, and can easily hold sentimental value.

Already new palettes – of which a plethora launch at this time of year – are hitting the market.

Some more creative, others more wearable for everyday, with a variety of textures and finishes, meaning there’s something for everyone.

These are some of our favourite picks to add to your wish list, because self-gifting is entirely valid too.

Vieve The Muse Palette

Get it for £43 from Cult Beauty.

Influencer-led brands can be hit and miss – but not Vieve.

Jamie Genevieve hasn’t launched a dud yet, and this latest addition is just as impressive the rest of the line.

Buildable pigment with warm earthy tones means this palette is easy to make work no matter your skill level.

The mattes are deep in tone too, so a wider range of skin tones will be able to make this work.

Go in with a brush on the mattes and fingers with the shimmers for the best pay-off.

Dolce&Gabbana Eye Hearts Palette

Get it for £59 from Lookfantastic.

When you think of Dolce&Gabbana, makeup might not be the first thing that comes to mind – but it should be.

This palette, beautiful in its outer packaging design, is just as beautiful inside too.

Pigments are surprisingly rich and very warm toned through reds and pinks, making it slightly ‘romantic’ in feel.

The two marbled shades are sheerer, working as reflective shades to layer over others.

Makeup by Mario Master Metallics

Get it for £41 from Cult Beauty.

A shimmer-lover’s dream, use single shades alone all over the lid or use this alongside an all-matte palette to create a fuller look.

We love how buttery shades feel and how rich the shimmers apply with one wipe of a finger.

From a gold flecked olive to a sea blue, there’s enough shades in here for you to come up with a variety of looks.

Get it for £24 from Boots.

A trend is clear here: pinks and red are having a moment.

For the Coke and retro lover in your life, this has enough neutral tones to ensure you’re not only stuck to with pink looks, though the monochrome theme here is strong.

To make it a set, the collection also comes with a coke themed blush and lip gloss.

Pat McGrath Mthrshp Mega: Celestial Odyssey

Get it for £60 from Pat McGrath.

Pat McGrath’s most coveted large palettes retail for a hefty £120, but at Christmas time she launches other large versions for half the price.

This doesn’t have the ‘special shades’ (the baked ultra-shimmery shades) that the regular palettes are known for, but it’s a good first step into the brand’s formulation.

For those that like to be creative with their makeup, you can’t go wrong.

Bobbi Brown Luxe Precious Metals Eyeshadow Palette

Get it for £55 from John Lewis.

If you like neutrals but feel you need a refresh, try this Christmas palette from Bobbi Brown which makes use of a liquid-powder formula for a more creamy and reflective finish than regular powders.

It comes in a pretty case too, making it even more gift worthy.

MAC Cosmetics Surprise Eyes Cool

Get it for £25 from Mac.

Cool tones haven’t been on trend in the same way as warm tones in a long time, so it can be hard to find a solid offering here.

While this comes in three different colour ways, the Cool version feels a little different other options on the market right now.

And, it’s the classic Mac formula you know and love.

Too Faced Cinnamon Swirl Sweet & Spicy

Get it for £40 from Beauty Bay.

Every year Too Faced release an autumnal palette that’s sweetly scented – this time, it’s cinnamon swirls.

A high quality formulation, pigments are buttery and blend together with ease.

Toasty and golden in tone overall, this is perfect for those who like their eye looks warm and bronzed.

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette of Pearls

Get it for £42 from Cult Beauty.

New for Christmas, Charlotte Tilbury’s quads feel luxurious and a classic kind of glam.

These pearlescent shades apply softly for a mature, sophisticated take on shimmer.

Urban Decay Naked Cyber

Get it for £45 from Cult Beauty.

A unique palette, this has a range of interesting ‘galactic’ looking shades.

Some shades have a shift in tone which makes them unlike most other offerings on the market – but it does have its limits.

Deeper skin tones might find the first portion of the palette reads ashy, and there are a lack of matte shades, meaning you might need to use it alongside another palette.

Get it for £27 from Boots.

For smokier, sultry eyes, this is your best friend.

Deepen tones with the matte black and layer the middle purple over other shades for a pretty reflective effect.
