Ashley Graham Just Posted A No-Makeup Selfie Showing Off Her Oozing Pimple

OK all you Dr. Pimple Popper stans—Ashley Graham is right there with you. Late last night, the model took to her Instagram Stories to share a no-makeup video with a fun surprise.


The first thing you’ll notice is her gorgeous glowing skin (with just a hint of her iconic brows at the top), but as she zooms the camera in, you’ll see the real star of the show: her freshly popped pimple.


“She got popped,” the American Beauty Star host narrates the video. As it gets closer to her pimple, she continues, “and now she’s oozing.” Graham has proven time and again that, as far as international celebs go, she’s pretty relatable. But her pimple-popping post might top the list. Skincare pros and derms agree that leaving an active pimple alone is the best treatment route. That said, it takes a ton of restraint to stay hands-off, and Graham’s definitely not the only one guilty of picking.

“She has what is called a papule,” explains celebrity esthetician Renée Rouleau. “This is a red painful bump with no visible pus or whitehead on the surface yet.”

As for the ooze Graham mentioned? “It’s a mix of the bacteria and white blood cells, a.k.a. immune cells, that are trying desperately to fight the infection,” says Rouleau. In other words, that “ooze” does a lot better of a job healing your breakout if it stays inside your body.

To treat this type of pimple, Rouleau recommends using soothing, calming ingredients twice a day, like an over-the-counter cortisone cream or her Anti Cyst Treatment. Most traditional blemish treatments will just dry out the surface of the skin, trapping the infection underneath so it can’t heal.

Most importantly, DO. NOT. POP. IT. (Sorry, Ashley!) Not only is it the the fastest route to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, but it can spread the acne-causing bacteria and make your breakouts worse.

But, if like Ashley, you can’t resist a pimple pop, you’re not completely S.O.L. Ashley’s makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes recommends covering a squeezed spot with a waxy, non-emollient concealer, like Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (shown here). This will stay in place much better than creamy alternatives and gives intense coverage.

Using a pointy liner brush for precision, apply concealer just over the redness, then tap it with your finger to gently blend the edges. “And don’t hydrate your skin too much under the makeup or you won’t get the coverage you need,” says Hughes.
