A DAD has shared heartbreaking photographs of his five-year-old daughter who was left brain-damaged after being critically injured in New Zealand's mosques massacre.

Wasseim Alsati and his daughter Alen were at the Al Noor mosque when the gunman fired at them.

Now, a month after the terror attack which claimed the lives of 50 worshippers, Wasseim has called for the alleged shooter to be hanged.

Sharing pictures of Alen in her hospital bed, surrounded by her distraught relatives and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Wasseim said he and others affected by the massacre are planning to petition the New Zealand government to change the law.

DEATH PENALTY

He told Daily Mail Australia: "We are still recovering, people are still in hospital. But we all decide privately that we are going to ask the government for the death penalty.

"The reason why he used New Zealand is because there is no death penalty. But with a case like this, we need the law to be changed.

"We’ve been talking inside the community. We haven’t said much about it but we are looking to go out and ask for him to be hanged.

"We are going to do that. We are going to ask for this to happen."

Wasseim was discharged from hospital at the weekend, but Alen is still recovering from brain injuries in Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland.

We’ve been talking inside the community. We haven’t said much about it but we are looking to go out and ask for him to be hanged.

Despite numerous operations, doctors are still unsure of the extent of Alen's injuries.

Last month Wasseim begged people to pray for Alen's survival after she was targeted in the March 15 massacres at two mosques in Christchurch, in the South Island.

The pair were hit by several bullets in the attack.

Wasseim, who owns a barber shop in Christchurch, initially had surgery for a perforated bowel and to remove shrapnel from his pelvis.

HEARTBREAKING PLEA

In March, days after the double massacres, he uploaded a heartbreaking video to Facebook from his hospital bed, post-surgery, thanking people for their support.

Clearly in pain, and struggling to speak, the brave dad said: "I am really tired, OK guys? Please pray for my… daughter.

"Hopefully she will be so much better. I’m just posting this video, to show you that I am fully OK, OK guys?"It’s been a pleasure to know you all guys, thank you for all your support and all the help, that you have given me so far."

Groaning with pain, Alsati ended his video with: “God bless you all.”

The footage had received more than 8,000 replies from well-wishers around the world within just one night.

Australian Brenton Harrison Tarrant, 28, has been charged with 50 counts of murder and 39 counts of attempted murder.

The suspected white supremacist has been moved to New Zealand's only maximum security prison in Auckland and appeared at the Christchurch High Court through a video link on April 5.

Tarrant was remanded to custody until June 14.
