How Meghan Markle’s ‘fixer’ became ‘second most important man in her life’March 17, 2019
He was by Meghan Markle’s side as she made her first public appearance with Prince Harry in 2017 and helped stage manage her lavish baby shower in New York.
As the Duchess of Sussex’s closet male friend, Markus Anderson is said to play an influential role in her life, and has even been dubbed it’s ‘second most important man’.
But who is the 41-year-old Canadian and how did he and the royal meet?
Meghan and Markus are reported to have first been introduced in 2011 through his role working for A-list member’s club Soho House in Toronto.
The Duchess had not long travelled to the city to film the first season of legal drama Suits when they met.
The pair are said to have formed a close bond almost immediately with Markus introducing her to now good friends Amal Clooney and Jessica Mulroney, reports the Mail on Sunday.
Markus even earned a reference in her blog Tig with Meghan writing in one post: "What would I do without you, my loving, supportive, and endlessly fun friend??
"I know what… I would be bored, and life would be infinitely less interesting. I love you SO much. Happiest of days for you now and always. Love you x.’’
The pair remained close and are travelled together to Madrid.
After the break down of the Duchess’ first marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson, Markus is said to have tried to set Meghan up on dates.
And while he did not set up Meghan and her now husband Prince Harry, he did play a part in helping the romance blossom.
He is said to have arranged for the pair to meet in private rooms at Soho House and even organised a trip to the boutique hotel Babington House in Somerset.
In fact, Markus’ closeness to Meghan has seen him become a regular feature in her life as a royal.
Most recently, he travelled with the Duchess to New York for her baby shower where he handled media.
Markus – who still works for Soho House as a global consultant – is also reported to have helped her pick her new press chief Sara Latham.
A source told the Mail: "Markus is great fun, very witty and amusing.
"He knows everyone. He’s utterly discreet. He and Sara are amazing people for Meghan to have on her team.
"Between them they know everyone in the world of politics and showbusiness on both sides of the Atlantic.
"If Meghan and Harry are looking to become a global brand with their philanthropy, they could not have chosen two better people to guide them."
