Mick Mulvaney golfs with Gary Cohn day after Trump called off Iran attackJune 25, 2019
The day after the US military was “cocked and loaded” to attack Iran before President Trump called it off, the White House’s acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney was at Atlantic Golf Club playing in a tournament as a guest of former White House adviser Gary Cohn.
“Mick was Gary’s guest,” a plugged-in player at the Bridgehampton club told us of the Friday sighting.
We hear that at breakfast some members of the club rolled their eyes over-easy when Mulvaney arrived at the pregame meal and “a full Secret Service detail spread out” to scope the scene.
One duffer huffed: “Bloomberg shows up with no protection, no hassle. This guy shows with the full retinue.”
Other members of the club, known for its billionaire power players, reportedly include Henry Kravis and Eddie Lampert. Cohn — once rumored as a potential White House chief of staff himself — exited the administration last year as an economic adviser.
Perhaps he was bringing in a ringer: Mulvaney’s known as one of the Beltway’s best golfers.
As a South Carolina congressman, Golf Digest put the “8-handicapper” Mulvaney at No. 42 on a list of DC’s 150 top players.
